DS and friends have got the results they needed so I expected they would be out partying. Nope they have no plans to do anything. Is this how it is with young people now?

Had a Kentucky fried chicken meal with a couple of friends then out for the evening Grin

The youth of today don't seem to go out drinking like we used to. Then again it was so much cheaper to go out then.

My teenage DC inform me that this is because most teenagers just take drugs instead Hmm

I sat in the park with my friends for a couple of hours, then went home. We probably went to the pub that night, we usually did!

Celebrated my birthday with my family

  1. I was in Ireland for the summer as I was every year. Opened them when I got home at the beginning of September and that was that. I probably put the kettle on... Grin

Drank from about 20mins after opening results- around 11ish I think. Various friends drifted into town, a mix of celebrating and drowning sorrows. Called home by my parents about 6, forced to eat some food (was comprehensively trollied by this point) before heading back out to town. Thrown out of the club at 2am before heading to the 24hr pool club. Left about 4am, very drunkenly attempted to describe to the taxi driver where I lived and eventually crashed into bed. Back out 5pm the next day. Oh for such stamina now...

Another family lunch here - I remember we had chateaubriand in a v fancy place which was a huge treat back then.

We took ds to wagamama. Not quite as flash...

Grindockray

User10fuckingmillion · 15/08/2019 22:22

I cried and shouted a lot. Definitely no celebrating!

I got into the university I wanted to go to so god knows what all the drama was about.

User10fuckingmillion · 15/08/2019 22:27

^ I was the first person in my family to go to university as well (last year) so it wasn’t like people were disappointed in me or anything. Confused

LaBelleSauvage123 · 15/08/2019 22:29

I went to see my grandmother because my parents were on holiday!
In contrast, we got up at 6 this morning to hear DS’s results, drove him into college and then took him out to lunch. This evening he went into town to celebrate with friends.

1997 - went out boozing! I loved that post A-Level summer. I didn’t travel or anything, I had to work, but I just remember the sun shining and being out every night with a great group of friends.

I was doing some work in a cafe in London earlier and two girls came in and were talking all about their results - both done very well - but it was 3pm and they had popped in for a coffee! I was sorry for them Confused

  1. I was camping in France and didn't get my results until I got home. I wasn't going to university and had a job lined up already, so nothing was hinging on them. TBH the most memorable event of that week was the death of Elvis Presley.
2gorgeousboys · 15/08/2019 22:48

I can't remember what I did but DS1 got his A level results last year, we were at school early then went for a posh breakfast (he had steak and a pint!), back to school to deliver pastries and coffees to the staff (I'm Chair of Governors) before DS1 went home for a nap then he met friends for drinks before going to watch a football match with all the males in our family.

Whilst they were at football I celebrated his success and my survival of his exam period with my DM and Dsis and had to cope with Ikea and a hangover the next day!

Stripyhoglets · 15/08/2019 23:03

Went to freinds house, then pub. Phoned uni the next day to check if get in as got BCD rather than CCC.
DS has gone to 'Spoons with his freinds - they are standard issue teenagers who still drink!

cavycavy · 15/08/2019 23:05

In 98 went I got my a level results I went out and got pissed and ate a huge bag of chips and a chicken pie on the way home. Nothing tastes better than that.

mamaduckbone · 15/08/2019 23:06

Recovered from a hangover...had my 18th birthday party the night before.
I remember waking up on a mate's floor and we all went into school together to collect them. Can't remember much else about the actual day ('twas a long time ago) but tbh we probably went back to the pub.
I can remember getting a really big hug from my dad. Smile

BelfastSmile · 15/08/2019 23:14

I was a proper geek at school, so had been invited to be in the audience in one of those "What do I do after A-levels?" shows (they basically invited people who were expected to do well and therefore wouldn't be sitting sobbing).

It was good fun. We were given questions to ask, things like "I missed my required grades by getting a D when I was predicted a C. Can I still get on the course I wanted?.
