Why won't this dog sleep????

Got my mum and dad's dog staying for a few days and she's driving me mad. She keeps barking for no reason.
I got up at 12.20am when she barked and went down to her presuming that she needed a wee. When I let her outside, she just wanted to bark at the darkness Hmm she has been barking since 3.20am - right outside our bedroom door. Twice I've got up and tucked her into her bed but she keeps coming back. Once, I let her in here and then she was growling to be allowed on the bed.... I drew a line there!!
It's like having a newborn that smells a bit ropey and insists on sleeping on the couch 😂
She has;
A dark room
A light room
Her bed and blankets
Access to water and food
Access to the couch

But still she barks!

As an added irritant, I'm the only person in the house who is in work tomorrow yet I'm the one dealing with her and now wide awake 😡

If this continues, I'll be parcelling her up and posting her to my parents on holiday!

How old is she? Dogs can get a sort of doggy dementia. She may well be the same at home or more likely just unsettled.

Sounds like she's finding being in a new house with less familiar people rather unsettling. Has DDog been to stay before?

I suspect she wants the reassurance of sleeping with her temporary humans - dogs are social sleepers.

As a sleep preserving compromise could you either give her a bath and let her sleep on your bed, or sleep on the sofa while she sleeps in the same room? I appreciate it's not ideal but you clearly need the sleep...

Oh god, sounds like our dog. He goes to a dog sitter when we are away and he always keeps them awake for the first few nights.....no reason other than he is a spoilt brat. Luckily they love him and, as they are full time dogsitters, see it as par for the course. I get a bit embarrassed by it....but not enough to un-spoil my brat!

Hope you managed to get some sleep and your doggy visitor settles down. A long walk before bed should help.

She is lonely and missing her mum

She's stayed before and did this last time too but had never done it before then. Last time I presumed that it was because my dad was in hospital and she was sulking Hmm She could give a stroppy teenager a run for their money in the sulking stakes Grin
Hopefully she'll be better tonight 🤞🏻
