The Handmaids Tale- what happens with the stolen children who would be old enough to remember their parents-8/9/10 yrs old say

Just that, young children it would be relatively easy for them to be incorporated into new families but older children ould be able to remember their lives before, what would happen if they didn't comply?

There was essentially a War first. The whole Gilead thing replacing that piece of America. So I think the children knew they had to suck it up. Presumably they’d have seen all the dead bodies hanging everywhere too.Probably a good motivator for complicity.

I like to think some of the older ones secretly rebelled or ran away to Canada...say the 12/13 year olds.
