My kids and I nearly got run over by woman on a bike

My God I hate some people, I need to rant.

I was wrangling my youngest who was trying to run out into the road at the crossing on an extremely busy road (6 lanes in total). The light went green so I yanked him up onto my hip, acknowledged to myself all the cars had stopped, stepped out then heard a bike come to an abrupt stop. The bike had been in my blind spot behind my sons wonderfully big head due to him being so high up on my hip. I was a bit shaken up and passively aggresively said to my eldest "that woman nearly ran us over because she wasn't going to stop at the red light." The bloody woman shouted "well you didn't looks soo.."

I admit I was in the wrong for not looking well enough but surely she could have seen that most of the blame falls upon the person breaking the law? She clearly saw people (including young children) at the crossing but thought "eh, they'll see me so I'll ignore the light." I'm so annoyed at myself for not going back and confronting her but those lights change quickly and there wasn't enough time. Plus I'm rubbish in those kind of situations and only ever thing of good things to say after it's all over. I'm so sick of cyclists not stopping at the lights!

So if you hadn’t stepped out she wouldn’t have stopped? Yes she was defo in the wrong.

We get this so much where I live! And that’s when the cyclists actually use the fecking roads or cycle lanes. Mostly it’s weaving around the pavement with one or no hands on the handlebars because they need to hold their can of lager and their phone. Remonstrate and risk violence. We don’t live in a particularly bad area either.

She was definitely in the wrong and knew it. Perhaps she was shocked herself so deflected by shouting back at you. But yes, she was definitely in the wrong.

@ElizaPancakes she had absolutely no intention of stopping!

This is why people dislike cyclists, you're on the road, follow the same rules as everyone else!

abitoflight · 13/08/2019 19:17

I'd have asked her what the fuck she thought she was doing and asked her for her name
Wouldn't expect to get her name obvs but might've made her think

AuntyMarysBigRedPants · 13/08/2019 19:37

I've seen that happen where I live OP, bloody dangerous

This happened to me with a man on a motorbike (obviously not quite a bicycle but still 2 wheels so I feel qualified to rant)

Idiot man comes speeding up to the traffic lights despite seeing cars in front of him stop at the red light. He had to dramatically slow down and then drove through myself and my partner whilst we were crossing the road (I was walking in front and my partner a few steps behind with the pram) then as soon as he was passed us he sped up again.

He wasn't wearing a helmet either. I would have had no sympathy if he'd crashed and smashed his brains all over the road, if he had hit my baby's pram she probably would have died.

Some people are utter wankers.

Jumblebee · 13/08/2019 19:57

Also my post DID have paragraphs but mumsnet doesn't seem to like them 🤔

Bamalam0 · 13/08/2019 20:29

@LittleMissEngineer I can't believe he tried to cycle away! Glad you're ok.

@Jumblebee it's so much more scary when your kids are involved. I feel so much hatred and anger towards people that could have put my kids at harm.
