I remember:
Grey PE "knickers" Envy Blush
Bringing in your Dad's old shirt to wear backwards as a painting apron.
Everyone being given a tobbaco tin to keep your crayons in

The Chelsea Girl in my town eventually turned into a River Island, but by then I'd decided I wanted a more intellectual type of carrier bag so I'd started using Sherratt & Hughes ones. Grin

@HeronLanyon
Yes to reinforcing rings!

And eventually Tippex. But that takes so much bloody time, I'm not sure how we had the patience. (I'm definitely a crosser-outer now.)

In the 1980s:
Pencil cases with buttons, which made things pop out, like a pencil sharpener.
Black elasticated plimsolls.
Marbles, for the marble season.
There was a time when yo-yos were popular, and were often confiscated if they came out during lessons.
Watches which bleeped on the hour; also vetoed by the headmistress, when her assembly was interrupted by a chorus of them.

Were they the CocaCola branded ones? That came with a list of tricks to learn? I think you had to collect tokens to get them.

But I remember having a Gordon the gopher lunch box when I was very small!

The mother of all conkers. GrinStar

Those solid plastic lunchboxes with a flask inside - I had a my little pony one which would be a collectors item now.
When I was very young we all had proper school satchels too.

catofdoom · 13/08/2019 23:17

I had a muppets one. I was so so so proud.

catofdoom · 13/08/2019 23:20

Omg I just found it on google. It had a yellow Kermit thermos. GrinGlitterball

FrenchFancie · 14/08/2019 05:26

I used to have the my little pony lunchbox! But I put it down in a cafe on the way home from school once and forgot it - I was so upset! And mum refused point blank to buy me another.

Now my Dd looses water bottles all the time at school and I suddenly understand my mothers frustration!!

wanderings · 14/08/2019 06:51

@unlimiteddilutingjuice the yo-yos were indeed coke branded ones, and a select few children managed all the tricks, and got the gold yo-yos!
