When will this bleeding stop - cerazette?

After having a month of bleeding on cerazette I have stopped taking it. I just cant cope with the constant bleeding. Anyway I stopped taking it 3 days ago and I am still bleeding. Is there anyone with any similar experiences? How long did it take to stop for you?

Took several months to settle when I was on it. Then no bleeding at all for as long as I took it(a few years).

Noooo, big mistake! It's worth it! I had about 6-7 weeks of bleeding, then spotting but in the 5 years since then I've had 3 "periods". (Not a touch on what I had before, more glorified spotting rather than a period)

Ages! I took it for a year and bled constantly. Dreadful form of contraception- definitely the worst one I've been on.

2-3 months for me then absolute miracle no periods ever again. Would stick with it if I were you

HarryPotterFan436 · 13/08/2019 19:15

I've already come off it. I think it's the wrong time for me to try and deal with constant bleeding. I just wish the bleeding would stop soon. I'm not sure how long it will take for the hormones to leave my system.

Carry on. It stopped my periods for over ten years. Now I’m perimenopausal so it has come back and everything is funky. But if u can cope. Just keep going. Ten years of no periods is a life u can have

LolaLollypop · 13/08/2019 20:26

Had years of no periods whilst on Cerazette (bliss!) Then came off it to have my daughter. Went back on it and bled for MONTHS! Until I gave up and fell pregnant again Grin. Maybe something changed with my cervix after birth, who knows. All I know is I didn't like the random bleeding. Made me worry too much it was masking something sinister. I won't go back on it again.

I took it for 6 months... bled almost constantly. Couldn't stick it any longer. Bled for about a week when I stopped taking it. The relief when my body got back to normal.

Hi OP, I’m a gynaecologist sepecialising in contraception. I’m afraid it’s pot luck whether you get unacceptable bleeding with desogestrel (=Cerazette) progestogen-only pill.
Approx 1/4 of women have little or no bleeding at all
Approx 1/4 have regular periods
1/2 have irregular bleeding, which can vary from daily, heavy bleeding to lighter more infrequent.

To add to the confusion, the bleeding pattern can change at any time whilst you are taking it.

In summary, any bleeding pattern possible but high chance of being unacceptable.

Once you have stopped, your usual bleeding likely to recover within 4-6 weeks.

Just come back and found these last few replies. I had no bleeding last night and today but am gutted that when I just came up for a shower I'm bleeding again. I really hope it stops soon. Its causing me so much anxiety.

quince2figs it's very interesting to read your reply. I was on this pill prior to pregnancy and for most of the time had no bleeding at all. This time constant bleeding for a month. It reminds me of when I had the injection and bled until it wore off.

when did your bleeding stop?
I’ve just come off cerazette due to constant bleeding and I’m still bleeding heavy almost a week later.

Thankfully mine stopped after 4 days of heavy bleeding and I haven't had any bleeding for over 2 weeks now. Just waiting for my period to come back now.
