Hi.we have just gone past jct12 on m5. On our right there is a big modern looking factory type building. Theres no identification on it.
We are just curious to what it is.
Does anyone know?

Are you going northbound? I think it’s the new incinerator you’re referring to. Vile thing.

Shakirasma · 11/08/2019 22:31

I believe it's an incinerator that generates electricity from household waste

GCAcademic · 11/08/2019 22:32

Is part of it green? If so, it’s an incinerator.

Ounce · 11/08/2019 22:33

Javelin Park incinerator. I quite like it. Better than landfill.

notacooldad · 11/08/2019 22:34

Yes. We are going north.
Thank you. We passed it coming down and just passed it again so was wondering!!

It's a waste incinerator. Hugely controversial, vile blot on the landscape. Not fully operational yet. Guardian article here

TeamUnicorn · 11/08/2019 22:37

I wondered what it was too when we passed it yesterday.

Ounce · 11/08/2019 22:39

Less of a blot on the landscape than the endless acres of ticky-tacky new build housing that line the rest of the M5.

Kittypillar · 12/08/2019 09:25

Oh wow, I had absolutely no idea about this. We'd been looking into whether to buy a house nearby there Blush

ErniesGhostlyGoldtops · 12/08/2019 09:49

Kittypillar Don't. I was you. Hot Fuzz is a documentary not a comedy.

exLtEveDallas · 12/08/2019 09:55

Oh I quite like the looking it as well. My family live nearby and I haven't heard any complaints yet.

notacooldad · 12/08/2019 09:59

weaverspin says it's not fully operational though.
Would that change once it is working to capacity?

Oh my goodness @ErniesGhostlyGoldtops Grin whereabouts near there were you? Stonehouse? Might have to warn the husband about... The Greater Good!

exLtEveDallas · 12/08/2019 10:38

I'm not sure, we've got one about a mile from us and it hasn't caused us any issues. We didn't even realise it had become operational Blush

Oldraver · 12/08/2019 11:05

My local council keep advertising 'tours' of or local digester...

I dont think thye have many take ups Grin

ChicCroissant · 12/08/2019 11:14

Yes, it's the incinerator and it's not obvious what it is from it's appearance (hard to describe if you haven't seen it).

Pegg comes from Brockworth (Cheese Rolling) rather than Stonehouse I think?

ErniesGhostlyGoldtops · 12/08/2019 12:38

Kittypillar ha ha, I moved up here 22 years ago and I'm still not convinced I made the right decision. I'm a 'Crusty Juggler' though :)

Kittypillar · 12/08/2019 22:20

@ErniesGhostlyGoldtops I'm a 'Crusty Juggler' though Smile oh that's really tickled me Grin sorry! DH says I'd probably be joining you though.

No luck catching them swans then?

Runs away before I quote the whole of Hot Fuzz on here

Wolfiefan · 12/08/2019 22:22

Haha. Yep that’s what it is. Did ye not wave at us heathens as you sped past? RUDE! Grin

Weaverspin · 12/08/2019 23:28

I have seen it described as a huge locust smoking a ciggie. And it kind of does. Once seen, cannot be unseen.

The Greater Good...

megletthesecond · 12/08/2019 23:34

old we had a tour of our local incinerator. The dc's got to operate the giant pick up claw. Tea and biscuits too. .

ErniesGhostlyGoldtops · 13/08/2019 14:00

Kittypillar Yarp!
