How much fuss would you make about this?

I do a regular gym class on a Sunday morning. We knew last week that the regular instructor would be on holiday but were told cover was arranged.

Their system has been accepting bookings all week and the class was full. They gym would have known who was due to attend and would have been able to contact them if necessary.

Anyway, you've probably guessed, come this morning 30 people waiting in a class with no teacher. The gym didn't even come and tell us it was cancelled, although they appeared to know when we went to investigate,

It was interesting to see how different people responded. Some were "oh well, let's go in the gym/have coffee instead", some just packed up and went home with a bit of muttering, a few were absolutely calling for blood.

How would you have reacted?

I would have said 'oh well, I'll go and use the gym instead'. I would probably have been a bit miffed but certainly not enough to make any sort of fuss about.

Yes the gym could have handled it better, but meh ....

I'd ask the gym politely if you can blag a free session of personal training or similar to make up for the inconvenience. They might tell you no but if you don't ask, you don't get. It was their error, mistakes happen so I wouldn't be "baying for blood" but I'd make it clear to them that you'd like some recompense for a wasted journey.

These things happen, I wouldn’t have gotten worked up about it

Aqueo517 · 11/08/2019 16:11

I’d have breathed a huge sigh of relief and skipped home to eat cake.

ExpletiveDelighted · 11/08/2019 16:15

I'd probably have shrugged and gone to the gym/coffee or gone for a run. It would have been annoying if the gym hadn't been available as an alternative though.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 11/08/2019 16:20

I'd have complained politely. Possibly ping an email to the manager later in the day.

Gym membership isnt cheap, and so service should be better than this, the management might not have realised what happened, that bookings were being taken for a class they knew wasnt covered (or they thought was covered), a new system is clearly needed for the future.

Ha, me too!

I wouldn’t have complained, it’s annoying yes, but these things happen! I would just use the gym instead.
