I looked in the mirror this morning and saw my mother looking back at me. Then I noticed a few more wrinkles.
What things to MNs notice that remind them that their getting older?

I've been reading a lot of chick lit recently. A lot of them seem to reminisce back to their university days, dancing to steps and with their Motorola phones. When even nostalgia is younger than me I feel old

Plump82 · 11/08/2019 14:32

When i wake up in the morning and ache when I first walk!

Gingernaut · 11/08/2019 14:33

When I see my increasingly crêpe-y skin around my neck and chest.

LifeIsGoodish · 11/08/2019 14:35

Yesterday I pulled a tight hood backwards off my head, giving me a brief 'facelift'. Suddenly I recognised the woman in the mirror - she was the 'me' I see in my head, not the one everyone else sees. I hadn't realised how much my face had sagged over the years. Ho hum.

Sleepyblueocean · 11/08/2019 14:54

Children that I taught at high school are now grandparents.

S0CKS · 11/08/2019 15:35

I favoured sitting in the garden with a hot chocolate over a trip to town for shopping this afternoon... Getting older is better for my bank balance at least

Ulverstonian · 11/08/2019 15:40

@socks
Mmm, hot chocolate. I would go with your choice over shopping any day. Don’t like crowds these days. I’m 38.

NomDeQwerty · 11/08/2019 15:41

When I was chatting and having a good laugh with a small group of women at a shared hobby and realised that I was the oldest in the group, some of them were the same age as my kids and that I was chatting and laughing with them on one level but they must have been seeing an 'old lady'. It really pulled me up - the difference between who I am inside and how I look outside.

I was flicking through music channels last night after DH had gone to bed. Only music I liked was on mtv classics.

I also found myself tutting at a

Posted too early....

Also found myself tutting at quite a few of the rap/grime type videos.

My only saving grace is that I'm still young enough to appreciate stormzy.

WhoAteMyNuts · 11/08/2019 15:52

My only saving grace is that I'm still young enough to appreciate stormzy.

Who is stormzy? Grin

I have spent the last 10 years listening to only the 80s music channels and realised the other day I haven't a clue about any singers/bands that are current.

Dowser · 11/08/2019 16:11

Wow sleepy blue

When I can see my wrinkles when I’m not wearing my glasses ☹️

fortheloveofPete · 11/08/2019 16:49

I sound like my mother
I can see my mother in the mirror
I'm getting grey hairs
My face is dryer and not youthfully bouncy like before when I thought it looked fat
I don't understand my daughter's generation, or comprehend what they are saying
Music is dead - it's unpleasant noise
The mere thought of getting ready to go out pisses me off

fortheloveofPete · 11/08/2019 16:51

That fashion really does repeat itself

Orchidflower1 · 11/08/2019 16:57

Yy to the fashions repeating- Dniece bought a head band yesterday and it looks just like the ones I wore at secondary school circa 1991!

Conversely I was looking for a lipstick and thinking I wonder if rimmel have a back stock of heather shimmer!

Tracklements · 11/08/2019 17:02

When it takes a lot longer to get up out of an armchair than it does to sit down in it Grin

There's also that time when "Do you fancy a drink?" becomes "Shall we have a nice cup of tea?".

When you realise that you have several more cardigans than you thought you had.

4strings · 11/08/2019 17:08

I have no tolerance for stupidity of any sort. None.

I give no shits whatsoever about what I wear, or, generally, what people think of me.

But the biggest giveaway for me is the grey hair. I hate it. I dye it, but then it’s back and there’s more of it. That and the fact I hobble if I’ve been sitting down for a while.

I’m 40. It’s not looking good.

balonzz · 11/08/2019 17:09

Lately, I have found myself rummaging through my handbag when I'm looking for something, I seem to find it quite difficult to locate stuff I know is in there somewhere.
Then I remember that my mother used to rummage in her handbag all the time and it really used to piss me off.
Now I understand why she did it.

fortheloveofPete · 11/08/2019 17:11

They bought back Nokia bricks, dumb phones, heather shimmer, big headphones, all things I remember first time round.

It's only a matter of time before ragging walls and pine come back.

Violetparis · 11/08/2019 17:11

I've just started to listen to Desert Island Discs on my phone and I've really enjoyed the ones I've listened to so far.

justgivemewine · 11/08/2019 17:14

So many of the above,

looking and sounding like my mother
school friends who are grandmothers
dyeing grey hair
hating/being irritated by 90% of the adverts on telly
taking half an hour to get up if ive been sitting on the floor

justgivemewine · 11/08/2019 17:17

just remembered

being rubbish at console games (or video games as we used to call them in the olden days Grin, i remember being frustrated with my mum cos she was so slow and rubbish at them, now i know how my dc feel when i try to play minecraft or fortnite etc. Blush

jaggynettle · 11/08/2019 17:18

@Orchidflower1 Rimmel still sell Heather Shimmer ☺️

NomDeQwerty · 11/08/2019 17:41

Pete I've been wondering which young pup willl be stealing Jocasta Innes' ideas

Crunched · 11/08/2019 17:46

...I have to consider if a quirky seat in a trendy office is to low for me to be able to get up from without help.
I am now a year older than MIL was when I met her. At that time I saw her as elderly.
