What is the one on the right? And how do I cook it?

The one on the left I believe is a runner bean.

Isn't it a french bean? Top and tail it and cook in slightly salted boiling water for 1 minute if you want it parboiled, 3 if you want it crunchy but cooked and 4 if you want it cooked soft but not disintegrated.

French bean or dwarf bean.

Cut off the stalky end and steam for 7/8 minutes. Up to you if you trim the pointy end off.

french bean
steam lightly or fry together with lardons.
if eaten too uncooked or undercooked they can cause stomach upsets.

Another vote for French bean, my lovely grandad used to grow them in his garden and we would pick them for my grandma for lunch. Lovely memory Smile

S1naidSucks · 11/08/2019 14:04

Did you receive them as a gift, OP? Or are you just a very adventurous gardener? I have visions of you skipping around the garden throwing random seeds here and there. 😁

SkelterHelter · 11/08/2019 14:07

Yes it's a French bean. Steam or boil and then add to a salad Nicoise

matteroflifeordeath · 11/08/2019 14:10

Slice and put in the microwave for 5 with a crushed garlic clove knob of butter and some water

maggycool · 11/08/2019 14:33

@S1naidSucks a gift from a friend, who had received a huge amount from another friend.

Love the idea of me chucking random seeds and digging up veg with no idea what it is though. 😁

You lucky thing. I hope you enjoy experimenting with new foods.

There’s always next season for chucking random seeds around your garden. 😁

Looks like a French bean. Steam it and put it in a tuna salad. Yum!

Really ? I've always eaten them uncooked, not many make it to the pan Grin

orangeshoebox · 11/08/2019 15:02

all beans are toxic when uncooked. dried ones more so than green garden ones, but still.
they contain Phytohaemagglutinin.
that's why you need to soak and cook dried beans for ages to make them safe to eat.
