Shared parental leave advice

Just wondered if anyone has done it? How did it work? How do you apply?
I am planning to take 11 months off and would like DH to have the remaining month. However I would like him to have it at the beginning with me. Is that possible? Can it be split however you like? Also is it on top of his 2 weeks paternity? Sorry a lot of questions I'm having trouble getting any advice.

Yes he can overlap it with you. We did that for the first three months I thatwe did that initial phase together.

Yes it is on top of the two weeks paternity leave. The paternity leave is fully paid but as you know SPL will see him take a significant pay hit.

Nobody cares how it is split except that he has to take SPL in 1 week chunks so he can’t randomly do two days one week and three days another etc

You would need to give notice that your maternity leave will end early in order to free up the weeks he wants to take. Yes he can take it at the start.
