What washing machine do you have and how long has it lasted ?

Just curious as mine often seem to brake. I've had two hotpoints which have both broken down after a couple of years.

I always thought they would last at least 5/6 years. I know people who have had their machines 10 years!

Maybe I'm unintentionally breaking them.

You need to look for the ones with the longest warranty, they are more likely to have been built to last. We have just had to get a new one and a friend pointed this out to me. There was a great selection that had 5 year warranties. Unfortunately the space we have for our washing machine is 5mm smaller than the standard size and so we were VERY limited on what we could get! Only time will tell if our machine lasts!

I have had a couple of Hotpoints and with minor repairs each lasted best part of 10 years. Now have Zanusi, think it's 6 years this Christmas and no problems whatsoever.

caranx · 11/08/2019 07:26

LG just over 8 years

I had the same problem with the Hotpoints going after 2 years
So I bought that LG but it was expensive though £700 (its 11kg drum)
I use it every day.

We have a Hotpoint. It currently 7 years old. My previous machine was an indesit and I had it about 10 years. My mum had her previous machine about 25 years....they were definitely more robust then. I do pay for the warranty with d&g - so if it breaks it will be fixed or replaced.

MonChatEstMagnifique · 11/08/2019 07:27

Our last one lasted 11 years and was Neff. We've currently got a Hotpoint that is 5 years old and still working well. Washing machine is always on so gets a lot of use in this house.

Have you checked if it's cheaper to just get it repaired? My friend was going to buy a new one but in the end it just needed something replaced for about £50.

Thanks everyone. We had a repair man visit but said the bearings were gone so he wouldn't fix as would cost too much/ take too long. It's had other problems too so we decided to get a new one before the winter comes.

Ours is a Bosch, had it nearly 10 years, we've only had to replace the door seal so far.

GaraMedouar · 11/08/2019 07:35

I have a Beko. Had it now around 6 years I think. Was cheap and cheerful.

saywhatwhatnow · 11/08/2019 07:45

Cheap and cheerful Beko still going after 6 or 7 years now. I try to keep it clean and do a hot wash with vinegar or a supermarket cleaner occasionally as it sometimes gets a bit clogged I think. I use liquid though which isn't great. Going to swap over to powder this month when I run out in the hope it keeps it a bit clearer.

VivaLeBeaver · 11/08/2019 07:47

I have a samsung ecobubble which must be 6 or 7 years old and has been fine.

squee123 · 11/08/2019 07:47

Bosch. Over ten years. Hasn't needed a thing doing to it and washes really well.

VivaLeBeaver · 11/08/2019 07:48

Bosch are meant to be very good and Miele.

stucknoue · 11/08/2019 07:48

Beko cheap (£250) 7 years and counting

Mummy2one2016 · 11/08/2019 07:51

We have a logik one from argos cost about £160. Still going strong nearly 6 years on.

orangeshoebox · 11/08/2019 07:54

our last was a kitchen shop rebranded bosch.
lasted about 10 years before the electronics went. was reparable but would have cost around 300£ to repair.
current machine is a miele, 5 years and all good.
4 persons, about 5-7 loads a week.

EdithWeston · 11/08/2019 07:54

My washing machine is fairly new.

It's a Bosch, bought to replace another Bosch which died after about 18 years (which needed no attention, until it ground to a complete halt)

randomsabreuse · 11/08/2019 07:59

Basic Miele. Had it 9 years at least - hard use. About £800 and worth every penny.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/08/2019 08:01

A very basic Privileg (no beeping, no timer) - does what it is supposed to since about 2000.

Notwiththeseknees · 11/08/2019 08:11

Miele - nearly 20 years and still perfect.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 11/08/2019 08:11

I inherited a Bosch from the previous owners 16 years ago - no idea how long they'd had it but I have never had an issue with it. My DD decided to replace it earlier this year - again Bosch, £300. My mother had a Bosch last lasted 20 years. We always had to buy German....

MargotLovedTom1 · 11/08/2019 08:15

Miele - had it nearly 13 years and never been a thing wrong with it (touch wood!) and it gets very well used (family of five). Husband nearly fainted when I spent £800+ on a washing machine but it came with a 10 year warranty and is built like a tank. I love it!

BertieBotts · 11/08/2019 08:18

We've got an AEG which is about 4 years old and still as good as new.

Chartreuser · 11/08/2019 08:18

Did have SMEG, lasted 13 months (one month outside warranty) and then the motor packed up. Hated it anyway but then when guy came out to repair said would cost a lot and so decided to scrap the machine. Bought an Indesit cheapy from John Lewis and paid an extra £80 for 5 years warranty.

Whilst I hate the throwaway culture and keep things going for years with ace repair man I had hated the Smeg (nearly £500 from outset) and the fact that it was such a fatal problem with the machine (and the month after we bought our machine they extended their warranty to two years but would not help us at all. AO to be fair have us £50 back which they didn't have to).

We were advised to buy something that meet our needs and was the most affordable with the best warranty, and put aside a bit extra a month thinking it may only left the 5 years and any extra time is a bonus.

No wonder the planet is f*cked such a waste

RoseMartha · 11/08/2019 08:18

My Bosch is 15 years old was the cheaper end of their range
