What washing machine do you have and how long has it lasted ?

Just curious as mine often seem to brake. I've had two hotpoints which have both broken down after a couple of years.

I always thought they would last at least 5/6 years. I know people who have had their machines 10 years!

Maybe I'm unintentionally breaking them.

I’ve had two Bosch the first lasted five years this one has got really noisy now at three years. The best I had was zanussi which lasted eight, then I gave it my brother and got another five out of it.

Had, a LG for over 13 years.....which we’ve just got rid of - the drum was too small for our current needs plus it started to smell 😏 (but hadn’t stopped working though).

Have just bought a Miele one for around £1000. The rest of our kitchen appliances are all Miele. IMO the quality is unbeatable on the Miele products. Hopefully we’ll get many years of usage from this machine.

I found the same with Hot Point, only seemed to last a few years. This time have got a Samsung one, it had a 5 year parts and labour guarantee, so fingers crossed!

TowerRingInferno · 11/08/2019 10:07

Just replaced a MIele that was 10 years old. Used twice a day, lots of mud and dog hair. Replaced it with another Miele.

Lighteninginabottle27 · 11/08/2019 10:11

Meile 11years old. Has seen 2 rounds of cloth nappies which hammer a machine and still going strong. Had a 10year warranty but thankfully never needed it. Would go meile again and not even look at anything else.

We live in a very hard water area so I'm blaming that also use it 2/3 times a day in the summer.

Mine is a Siemens it is 11 years old and we have replaced the door once as the kids were too rough with it. I had to call out a engineer last year as it was not going to the spi cycle and I said to him on the phone. "I want to know if it's a good idea to repair or should we consider a new one" He replied. With that sort of machine almost certainly worth it. Cost us £50 total and it's still going strong.

ExpletiveDelighted · 11/08/2019 11:47

We are also in a very hard water area, probably use our Bosch 8 or 9x a week and it has still lasted 10 years. I do maintenance washes at 90° using either soda crystals or bleach about once a month and at least one 60° cycle a week. No fabric conditioner ever.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 11/08/2019 11:50

Currently have a 5 month old Samsung 10kg ecobubble. It replaced a 6 year old Beko 8kg. The Beko replaced a 10 year old Zanussi.

The warranty on the Samsung is 10 years so I’m hoping to get at least that if not 15/20 years out of it.

CremeEggThief · 11/08/2019 11:52

I have a Hotpoint Aquarius (7 kg) that I've never had any problems with in just over 7 years.

Jsmith99 · 11/08/2019 11:58

Ours is a very basic, ancient Hotpoint. It’s so old that it was actually made in the U.K., at some point in the last century.

The controls consist of three buttons and a single dial. There isn’t much to go wrong, it has needed a new door seal and a couple of sets of bushes over the years, but it just refuses to die. It doesn’t owe us a penny.

CremeEggThief · 11/08/2019 11:59

2/3 loads a day is a lot! We do between 3 and 8 a week.

ChesterDrawsDoesntExist · 11/08/2019 12:12

Hoover Next Dynamic and it's just turned 3 years old. And it's awful. After the first years warranty was up it started randomly beeping and the buttons seemed to have fallen inward. We opened it up and pushed the button panel back in with a click. We had to do that about once every couple of months. Over the past 2 years it has been more and more difficult to get the start button to start it. It beeps so is making contact but will only work if we piss about or leave it for a day. The 10 years parts guarantee is great on paper except we have to pay £150 for their engineer which is too much.

When it works it's bloody brilliant. Short cycles if you want, washed perfectly and takes a 10kg load.

Elphame · 11/08/2019 12:16

my old AEG lasted almost 20 years. It finally retired a month ago as the bearings were gone. They could have been replaced but the repairman couldn't get the necessary seal.

I'm told that AEG quality is not what it was so it's been replaced by a magnet driven LG with a 10 year warranty

Cherryade8 · 11/08/2019 12:26

Bosch still going after 13 years, it was one of their cheaper ones too...

AnnaMagnani · 11/08/2019 12:32

Samsung, about 2 months old.

Replaced a 15 year old Beko. Neighbour suggested she 'always just bought a Hotpoint' but after a long discussion with the man in John Lewis we discovered the world of washing machines had changed quite a lot in 15 years and Beko and Hotpoint were no longer it anymore.

Miele was beautiful but far far too expensive. So Samsung it was.

Sianlouise432 · 11/08/2019 12:40

We have a new zanussi.. Before we had another zanussi for 10+ years. Beko set fire to my grandads house so wouldn't touch with a barge pole.

FrogFairy · 11/08/2019 13:05

Basic Miele machine, cost £500 15 years ago and has never missed a beat.
The delivery man advised to never overload the drum and always give it time to cool down in between loads.

Cwtches123 · 11/08/2019 15:46

My cheap Beko has been going strong for 10 years. Hotpoint engineer recommended it when my Hotpoint died!

Chartreuser · 12/08/2019 13:40

10 minutes after I wrote this the pipe got blocked and water went all over the kitchen. Two goes of chemicals and a drain snake have failed to clear it so Dyno rod coming tomorrow

RezCowgirl · 12/08/2019 13:53

Ours was the cheapest from Tesco Direct just over 8 years ago for £160. I think it's a hotpoint and it's never skipped a beat doing 4/5 loads per week.

Carruthers2 · 12/08/2019 16:49

Bosch, purchased around 1988. Apart from a few rusty patches on the front of the machine near the soap dispenser the machine works perfectly.
