What washing machine do you have and how long has it lasted ?

Just curious as mine often seem to brake. I've had two hotpoints which have both broken down after a couple of years.

I always thought they would last at least 5/6 years. I know people who have had their machines 10 years!

Maybe I'm unintentionally breaking them.

I lived my hot fill hotpoint. Once that broke, I got through a couple of hotpoints in quick succession... They just didn't seem as good.

Then we had the bleeping bosch. How it didn't have a lump hammer taken to it with all its incessant beeping I don't know.

Now we have a John Lewis one. It's fine. Nothing special.

We are heavy on our washing machines, until last year 7 people lived here and my dh does a mucky outdoor job meaning loads and loads of filthy, sandy, muddy, cementy washing.

I'd have the John Lewis one again.

Miele. 13 years. I'm planning I'm having it another 13 hopefully!

LoafofSellotape · 11/08/2019 08:22

Meile ,18 years and nothing ever wrong so far...touch wood!

chomalungma · 11/08/2019 08:23

Zanussi.

10 years. It's got a little fault wherebt it starts washing after 4 or 5 attempts to get going. I quite like the randomness of this.

Skinnychip · 11/08/2019 08:25

Weve got a miele and its at least 11 years old. It used to get used almost daily when DC were young but now more like 3-4 times a week.

User260486 · 11/08/2019 08:26

Samsung, 10 years and still fine.

genome · 11/08/2019 08:29

Bush machine, which was around £250 I think, is 8 years old and still working fine. It's been in heavy use the past 6 years with (now) 3 kids and cloth nappies. It's really noisy in the spin cycle, but I will keep it until it dies!

TapasForTwo · 11/08/2019 08:30

In the last 35 years we have only had 2 washing machines. The first one - a Zanussi lasted nearly 20 years, and was scrapped because the house we moved into already had a washing machine plumbed in - a Bosch, which is still going strong after 16 years.

myidentitymycrisis · 11/08/2019 08:31

Meile, it’s 10 years old I think. Drum is a bit too big for me but wanted the quality

Hotpoint- it has broken 2/3 times and now I have a repair warranty on it. The break has always been to do with all sorts of crud (hair clips, money etc) stuck way down in the filter.

I am much better at making sure pockets are empty before washing and give it a service clean 1/month. And no problems.

It’s 8 years old, and cost £300.

Thinkle · 11/08/2019 08:38

Meile, approaching 9 years I think, never broken and has been through two house moves.

Livingthedream12345 · 11/08/2019 08:38

I bought a new Bosch when DD was born. 7 years and still going.

Penners99 · 11/08/2019 08:39

LG Direct Drive, 8 years and going strong

Purplerain16 · 11/08/2019 08:42

We're in rented accommodation and our washer is included, but it's a prima & has been in the property for about 8 years.

Its a washer dryer, never needed repairs & still has a lot of life left.

What part of your washing machine keeps breaking? It could be that you're overloading it or using too much detergent

LoveGrowsWhere · 11/08/2019 08:43

LG here too. About 7 years.

cobblers123 · 11/08/2019 08:43

Bosch bought in 2006 when kitchen in previous house was replaced. As it's only me, I do around two loads a week so it doesn't get a huge amount of use. So far has been excellent.

Hoping that I won't have to replace it before I get a new kitchen with appliances which will probably be in about two or three years time. Will definitely go for another Bosch machine.

Hotterthanahotthing · 11/08/2019 08:44

The bearings went on our last Bosch just out of warranty.I now have a Beko into its 4th year.

redcaryellowcar · 11/08/2019 08:44

We had one which was in the house when we bought it, think it was around 9 years old when it finally broke beyond repair. We now have a LG direct drive and it's so quiet!! Ours currently has to be in our kitchen, so really quiet is brilliant!

Sparadrap · 11/08/2019 08:45

Beko under £300. We’ve had it for 8 or 9 years with no problems. I was told years ago to never overload your machine and to never do a whole towel load. These things put strain on your machine and will eventually break it. I was also told to not only use those gel pods. They clog up the machine. Use powder every so often which apparently shifts the gunk.

fussychica · 11/08/2019 08:59

AEG 11 years old. I'll be gutted when it goes, it's so flexible and doesn't take an age to wash stuff like the latest models.

BarbaraofSeville · 11/08/2019 09:36

No idea what you are doing with them as your experience is not typical, what on earth are you doing with them?

We left our first washing machine in our first house when it was still working and 11 years old as I wanted a bigger drum and a hand wash programme. I think it was a Bendix - mid range brand anyway.

We've just replaced our second washing machine (Zanussi) at 13 years old as appeared to be on it's way out - was very noisy on the spin and jumped around the utility room despite being on a concrete floor. The door seal was also disgusting.

We've now just bought an AEG chica and I'm very pleased with it - again mid price range - it was less than £400 because it claimed to have been reduced and then Curry's had a 10% off voucher code. It weighs the washing and if it's not full, the programme time shrinks massively.

A full load of 40 C cotton takes 3 hours as standard, but if it's about 2/3 full or less, this goes down to not much more than an hour. I tend to use the time delay feature to have it finish by early morning anyway, so it's ready to hang out in the morning without needing to be up for hours.

BarbaraofSeville · 11/08/2019 09:39

But we do have very soft water and I think that helps. Our first dishwasher lived to about 15 years old (Hotpoint because it matched the fridge freezer that we still have at about 22 years old) before just dropping completely dead - DP tested internal and external circuits and fuse type things and declared it kaput.

And now we have the lowest model Bosch, that's about 5 years old and absolutely fine with near daily use and far less filter cleaning out than a lot of people go in for.

delilahbucket · 11/08/2019 09:41

Our Hotpoint is still going strong after five years. My last one was a Hotpoint that I had for six years and only got rid as the house I was moving to already had a washing machine.
