Dettol washine machine cleaner made my machine smell mouldy!!

Used Dettol washing machine cleaner a few weeks ago and now my washing machine smells vaguely mouldy - as does every load of washing that comes out of it!

It's so frustrating - my washing machine was fine before I used it - just thought it might be a good thing to do as perhaps there were lurking germs that I wasn't aware of. Really wish I hadn't.

Anyone else had this effect from something supposed to clean the machine?

I don’t trust them, it seems a lot of money when I can use much cheaper ingredients to keep it clean.
A hot wash with white vinegar always works a treat. Keeping the door open all night helps too.

Bloodycats - I keep the door open whenever the machine is not in use and take the dispenser drawer out too. It's so bloody annoying when I think that there was nothing wrong with it before. Lesson learned. Will give the vinegar a go.

Try emptying the filter. It could be something caught in that which is pongy.

FiveLittlePigs - have done that previously, and all fine. It's definitely only since I ran a cycle with the cleaner.

Hot wash and biological powder.

Or

Hot wash and white vinegar in the drum.

I thought it was just me this had happened to, that I did it wrong or something! Quite relieved to hear it has happened to others but at the same time it's not great is it. Mine was a few weeks ago and the smell has cleared now but it was really bad for a while.

I had the same problem but it was after using soda crystals...thought they were meant to make it smell fresh but it made it smell like death. Do a hot wash with a biological detergent.

Perhaps the cleaning cycle dislodged some crud but didn’t completely clear it. I would give it another hot wash with bio powder, vinegar or soda crystals.

My washer smelt fine before using Dettol anti bacteria washing machine cleaner now it smells mouldy it’s only 12 months old !!
