Making a Shepard’s pie for dinner tonight and have just realised that I’m out of Worcestershire sauce. Hoping that some of you have tried and tested alternatives for me to use.

Bovril.
Pureed tin of anchovies in oil.

Ooh yes, tinned anchovies add something lovely to meals like that; you can't taste them, they just make it more delicious.

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 09/08/2019 17:00

I have marmite! Do you just substitute 1:1?

Don’t have any anchovies unfortunately

I'd probably dilute brown sauce and marmite with some tomato sauce to remove some of the strong taste. Marmite on its own might be too overpowering? I often add a few drops of vinegar to soften the meat and help lift the taste.

Brandy, about half a shot's worth.

FiveLittlePigs · 09/08/2019 17:26

Marmite plus some thick gravy from granules. Lovely x

Grind anchovies with capers. It won’t work in a blender though.

I went for marmite, vinegar and some extra tomato purée. Worked well enough, no one else commented. Thank you for all your suggestions Smile
