Help I am absolutely freaking out

I have health anxiety which is just awful at the moment, I've been having CBT and on meds but its not really working.

anyway, this morning I was at the hairdressers and I suddenly noticed a new mole on my thumb. Pretty sure it's brand new. I even tried to wipe it off thinking it was a bit of dirt or something - nope, definitely a new mole. It's dark brown, it's totally flat and it's very small. But it's not round - its borders are irregular (see pic) and I know that's symptomatic of melanoma

I won't be able to get to the GP until Monday now and I know I am going to spend the weekend panicking. Can anyone talk me down?

I know how irrational and ridiculous I'm being but once I'm in that hole thats it i can't stop.

It looks slightly red in the picture, could it be a sort of blood blister? From scratching your thumb on something?
A freckle from being in the sun? My arms are covered in freckles, and some get a bit darker when I have been in the sun.

I don't want to dismiss your health anxiety, but simply consider other possibilities.

Take a deep breath, or do whatever helps with the anxiety.
I hope the GP is helpful on Monday. Easier said than done, but try not to let it disrupt your weekend.
You know it's there, you can't do anything I Monday, but on Monday, you are going to do what you can. Acknowledge it, but don't let it take over. x

I had one very similar to you OP in the fact that is was not round, same size and colour as yours.
My GP had a good look and said, that it would only give cause for concern if it was raised from the skin.
It looks like a freckle to me.
Think about it, all the sunny weather we are having and your hands are constantly exposed to the sun. That's the most like place to get a new freckle.
Ood luck with your appointment. I'm sure everything will be fine.Smile

It isn't red, it's brown. Like a freckle, just not round.

It looks like a freckle rather than a mole- could it be?
When I start freaking out like this I give myself a deadline and tell myself I will get it checked on.... so I won’t think about it till .....
It helps quite a bit usually.

It's always important to get new/different/changing/irregular moles checked out so please do go to your GP.

However, to put your mind at rest, I have loads of moles that look like that and get new ones all the time. I do get my moles regularly checked though and my consultant dermatologist was not at all concerned by the moles that look like yours.
