Found this in my local Tesco Express yesterday afternoon:

Teacakes
A cheap pizza
Sausage rolls
Cooked meats
Cocktail sausages if £2
Little yoghurts
Alcohol (this is underlined twice)

Blue pen up to ...meat. The s of meats onwards is in red pen. Very neat writing.

All major food groups covered there ! :)

Sorry, typo, should be £1 for the sausages.

They're doing a buffet with the cheap pizza as the vegetarian option, so the only vegetarian attending will complain if a meat eater 'steals all their food' because they want something different to processed pork three ways.

If you're in South Yorkshire, the teacakes are to make sandwiches with the cooked meats. If you're in Scotland, the tea cakes are the chocolate marshmallow sort so the dessert to the buffet.

@BarbaraofSeville - not quite S Yorks, but o can walk to the boundary of S/W Yorkshire easily. The teacakes are definitely the bread type.

I particularly like that “alcohol” was underlined twice. It was written on the back of a birthday card envelope addressed to a name pretty-common amongst 40-something women. I reckon the poor woman is suffering from the middle of the school holidays. Cheap pizza and little yoghurts are for the dc who are on holiday.

Ooh a shopping list 👀

dementedma · 09/08/2019 17:43

Ooh, tea cakes would be Tunnocks squidgy ones up here.
This is a mum trying to keep kids fed during holidays on a tight budget but who needs gin regardless of price to keep her sanity. Been there.

No Naice Ham though :(
