Low iron?

I've got a niggle that my iron may be a bit low. I have blood a month ago, and I was on the minimum level allowed for donation, and I've noticed in the last couple of weeks that normal things seem to be taking quite a bit more effort, and I'm quite tired. I also need a holiday though, so it could just be that Grin. Thinking of trying a gentle supplement to see if any improvement, what's best these days?

I did have a tendency to low iron when pregnant, but that was 13 years ago last time, and generally I tend to believe I'm getting sufficient nutrients from diet. I don't feel as bad as when I was properly anaemic- that wading through treacle feeling - but things are definitely a bit harder at the moment.

When I had to take iron tablets after childbirth they really didn't agree with me.

However, when I was pg and needed to get my iron levels/platelets up I had a lot of steak sandwiches/spinach/brocolli/OJ and they'd gone back to normal by the following blood test.

Personally I'd be tempted to do it through diet first.

Why dont you see your GP and get blood test? Armchair diagnosis wont help you

I feel a bit like you OP, so this week have started Spatone. It's liquid iron, I used it when I was anaemia during pregnancy. It doesn't upset my stomach like tablets do.

Btw, i have found it cheapest from amazon...... Wink

It's only just clicked in my brain that I'm struggling a bit more than usual and the comment about borderline ferritin levels when giving blood, and we're off on holiday on Tuesday, no time to see GP and have blood tests before then.

Right I'm going to have steak, spinach and salad for dinner, and start snacking on dried fruits and see if I feel a bit better, will try to eat iron rich foods while away. And try to reduce my omeprazole, as that may be blocking my absorption of ferritin and other vitamins. And book GP visit if no better when home.

Thank you all for suggestions!
