It’s my daughter’s 10th birthday in a few weeks and I’m not sure what sort of party to have. Budget not more than £1k.

Any ideas please

Take her and her friends to Lazer Quest and send me the remaining £800.

Firstly, this is the wrong section - you've put it in "Ask Me Anything".

Secondly, unless you're very well off, and mix with other parents who are very well off, then you're ridiculous to consider spending £1K on a 10th birthday party.

Around that age one of my DDs had a photoshoot type party. She invited 5 of her best friends and they took a couple of changes of clothes (PJs one of them I think), and there was a box of dressing up stuff. Each child got a small book with several photos and DD got one of the shots as an enlargement as part of the package. It has been a great keepsake of their friendships in primary school (she's now 20).

Oh, I thought this was going to be a leap year thing...

PotteringAlong · 09/08/2019 08:52

£1k?!

EmilyStar · 09/08/2019 08:57

That’s quite a budget!

Anyway. I’d think about what sort of things your DD likes, and plan themes or activities around those.

DD is having a standup paddle board party this year and a picnic in the park at the water sports centre for her 10th, costs about £150 plus some picnic food.

Bokky · 09/08/2019 09:05

We took DD and some of her friends to Pizza Hut then the cinema. Cost us about £150.

Yeah Middle I thought it was a leap year thing!
1k on a 10yr olds birthday?!
When my youngest was that age (slightly youn)there seemed to be a competition as to who could have the most elaborate party.
I remember one where they had a disco, a petting zoo, limo rides and a magician (all at same party)
The kids were overwhelmed, knackered and hyper.
The disco was empty.
A week later the kids attended another party.
This involved a sit down tea, party games, face painting and stick on tattoos
They loved it!

Morning. We've moved this over to Chat (it was in AMA). Good luck OP.

Gamorasgran · 30/08/2019 08:37

Christ. We're just getting into 10 year old parties and so far have been invited to a mamma Mia themed disco and mini golf and pizza. No one seems to be planning anything massive tbh

What type of a girl is she?

If she’s girly you could book a princessing party in your home or a salon and they could have their hair and nails done. Followed by a meal in a popular restaurant.

Or if she’s more of a tomboy then you could pick an activity such as bowling or swimming.
