Where would you suggest for a holiday in October?

Just me and DH. We are in our 50's. Looking for somewhere beautiful but not hot. We like to walk and enjoy nature as well as historical sites and art/museums. We have pondered the Italian Lakes, Sicily and Boston/Massachusetts. Where else might we like?

Mauritius. It will be high twenties then so not too hot and there is loads of beautiful hiking and outdoor activities.

Florida? There's so much more to it than Disney. Plus the weather is great in October.

Norwegian fjords are something we have talked about doing. That may be a contender.

We went to Rome fairly recently and loved it but don't need to return yet. Been to Mauritius and didn't really love it. Also been to Florida many times from Orlando right down to Key West so not likely to choose there either. But thank you for those suggestions. I am aware you all have no idea where we have already been.

The most spectacular place we visited recently was Switzerland with Grindlewald being my favourite place. I am looking to visit somewhere else that will stun me as much as it did there.

We're off soon to Norwegian fjords and looks very beautiful. We are staying close to Alesund which looks beautiful, as does Bergen and the fjords. There's the Flam Railway if you like trains. Lots of wildlife were we are going which is remoter than the cities - doing moose safari in Oppdal, reindeer, seals, otters, eagles, puffins. Only thing will be how much is open in October and weather. Loads of walks. Even have trolls by were we are staying. Smile Quite Norwegian where we are going - I'm having to learn how to translate it!

Scottish Islands. Definitely "not hot" but tourist numbers are down and plenty of history to check out.

Tourist numbers are down????? Bloody hell, you don't live here do you.

Montenegro is absolutely stunning. I was there in July for two weeks, not sure what the weather would be like in October. Plenty to see and do, national parks and the option to see some of Croatia or Bosnia if you want. I would recommend the towns of Kotor and Petrovac. Budva is more of a party town with nightclubs

October is a a good time to visit Venice which is my favourite city.
