Help me diagnose this weird rash on DS's knees

This rash has appeared over the last day or two. Ds(10) can't remember doing anything that might have irritated them, and they're a bit itchy but not unbearably so. He doesn't generally suffer from eczema or any other skin conditions.

Any thoughts?

Thanks all.

That does look similar @Cally70 . Dh has stuck some hydrocortisone on one knee ( not the other) so we'll see if steroid cream helps.

Don't think it's HF&M. I'm pretty sure he had it when he was younger and it's like tiny chicken pox I think, little blisters, and this isn't like that.

I've googled Dermatitis Herpetiformis @DearGoodnessIsThatTheTime and in some of the pics it looks quite similar. He's got no digestive problems, though it says they not all sufferers do. Really hope it's not that as I've got one dairy and egg free DD already so could do without gluten free too!

I've got an appt for Monday so I'll let you know the verdict.

Hfm is caused by two totally different virus families though. My son had it and it looked just like your pictures. If you Google and look at images you can see how differently it can present.

Ah, ok @Strangerthanstrange I'll take a look, thanks.

Well we went to the GP today. She thought it was a sort of post viral psoriasis that can flare up when they're run down, and has prescribed hydrocortisone and emollients, with instructions to return if it's not better within a week.

Hopefully it'll clear up and that'll be the end of it Smile
