Car crash

Morning, I have a couple of queries please.

I had a car crash whilst driving between appointments whilst at work. I asked my manager to add this into the accident book but they did not know where it was.

I emailed HR who advised it would be held locally. Despite asking/emailing around no one knew where it was held.

Other driver admitted fault via their insurance company. I asked my car insurance to deal with it. Should I have gone through works insurance? Does it make any difference?

I was off work for a few days following the accident and have now had another couple of days with sickness. My absence score is high but those days following the accident have not been discounted. Is that right?

Thanks all.

Was it your car or a company car?

If company then your work will deal, if it's your vehicle (and you are covered for use in work, not just commuting) then your insurance company will deal.

As for reporting it at work, why?

H&S aside, what do you want work to do?

Your absence record will show every days absence, reguardless of reason. It's up to your employer to categorise if those are classed as work days or not. I'm guessing that an "injury on duty" will not count towards your sickness in terms of any disciplinary action. Although total number of days absent will still show on your record.

Thanks for reply.

My car, covered for business use. That’s why I asked my insurer to deal with it, not sure why I suddenly wondered whether this was the correct process.

I do not expect work to do anything really, someone just said it should go in the accident at work book, my manager agreed but no one can find it. I’m quite new so want to do things properly.

I am worried as I had a return to work meeting following my couple of days sickness to be advised that my absence score was high. I guess I feel penalised as if I had not been in an accident whilst driving for work, I would not have been absent those days. I thought they would not ‘go against me’ as such.

I just have to hope I do not get sick at all for the rest of the employment year.
