What’s your first memory??

I was just discussing this with my OH who said his first memory was from when he was around 2yo and his cousins had come over and they were trying to get him in trouble by telling him to hit them, then they’d go in and tell their parents.

I sat for a while thinking but I can’t remember anything from before I was about 5yo.... I remember nagging my mum to play a game with me and she said no, because she’d just sat down to read the paper. I don’t know why I remember that but nothing before then...or nothing more important.

What are your first memories?

Heart surgery at 2 years & 9 mths, I remember being in a cot on the ward, one side were cots and the other side small beds. I cried a lot, my Dad's workmates bought me an Andy Pandy doll.

I vividly remember being in my pram, parked outside a post office (I've been told it was a PO, didn't remember that bit!) when my mum left me for a moment to go in and do something. This was the 70s so not unusual to do that. I was attempting to climb out of my pram and got half way out but was restrained by my pram reins so was just dangling out over the side. I had a little hat on so it must have been autumn the year after I was born, making me about 18 months old at the time. I astonished my mum when I recounted it - it happened exactly as I'd remembered.

I cant remember anything before 4 so I'm amazed and impressed with people who can recall memories from 18 months to 4

I remember loads of things about my dad taking me to hospital when I was four years old: getting out of the car, looking down on the very familiar park from the hospital building, the long corridors, being in a bed after the operation, protesting about being made to wee into a potty instead of the toilet (perhaps they needed a sample). I don't remember being put to sleep, although my dad later told me about it in a lot of detail.
