Adding an Inglenook fireplace with Gas Stove?

Anyone done this or got any advice?
We live in a Victorian House and want the old Gas fire removed and the surround taken out.
We have had a quote from a highly regarded local firm. To create an ignook is a days work. To plaster the inside and put down a stone hearth and then add an Oak beam is around £2000. We can het a gas stove from around £450 up to £1800!

We have asked around locally and various builders are willing to smash through and create the inglenook. But we then need the Gas safe registered installers to remove and fit anyway, add the hearth and beam which is still coming in at around a grand! The problem is fitting them around each other.
Is the first quote ok? Shall we just go ahead with one company who will do the whole lot in two days? TIA
