We are getting a puppy soon. What information should a dog have on their tag?

Your surname. Telephone numbers. ‘I’m microchipped’. Spayed/ neutered. Address

ThisIsMyBuick · 06/08/2019 12:54

I don’t think that’s right, l looked it up last week.
Legally I think it’s
Surname
House number
Postcode.

Obviously phone number is a good idea.

Cocobeanstalk · 06/08/2019 12:56

No it’s not the law to say your dog has had his balls done. But sure would be a benefit if he ever got into the wrong hands

On my dog tags I have

Microchipped
address
my mobile number

joystir59 · 06/08/2019 12:59

Your phone number and your postcode.

joystir59 · 06/08/2019 13:00

You don't need to put your name or full address. Or the dog's name. Just phone number and post code

Nesssie · 06/08/2019 13:03

Legislation only says name and address.

I would have
Surname. Address(At least house number and postcode or first line of address). Telephone number(s)
'I am microchipped'

JudgeRindersMinder · 06/08/2019 13:03

I on,y have my phone number on mine 😳

adaline · 06/08/2019 13:07

Mine has my surname, house number and postcode and my mobile number. He's chipped too.

Pipandmum · 06/08/2019 13:08

Control of Digs Order 1992 says name and address. It make sense to have phone number and microchipped on it.
Mine only have my phone number and microchipped so guess I need to get new ones!

HarrietSchulenberg · 06/08/2019 13:09

Mine just has his name one side and my mobile on reverse. He was sporting the wrong number for 6 months until Smallest Boy noticed that 2 digits were transposed Blush.

NuffingChora · 06/08/2019 13:09

We have a double sided tag laid out as:

Side 1:
SURNAME
HOUSE NUMBER POSTCODE
PHONE NUMBER 1
PHONE NUMBER 2

Side 2:
VET:
VET NUMBER
MICROCHIPPED

Don’t put the dog’s name on the tag as theoretically makes them easier to steal if they come to their name and thief manages to get hold to check.

I also like the idea of putting ‘NEUTERED’ - night do that next time.

Nottobesoldseparately · 06/08/2019 13:13

Do you know, I've no idea what's on ours.

I need to check.

It did have our surname and husband's mobile, but I know we had to change it when we lost it (the tag, not the dog) and the pet shop said it needed more info on.

You never put the dogs name on it.

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 06/08/2019 13:35

Mine has name, address, phone number and microchipped.

She has an additional one that says “Shit, I’m lost. My mum will be ugly crying” and my phone number

MrsDeltaB · 06/08/2019 13:39

We have surname postcode and telephone number

I do need to update postcode since we moved.......a year ago 😳

HUZZAH212 · 06/08/2019 13:47

Phone number and Ddogs name. I know some people say that's not a great idea, but these days he's old and deaf as a post so makes no odds now.

SamBeckett · 06/08/2019 13:52

@pipandmum dig control order lol I bet there are lots of dog owners out there that wishes this was a really thing Grin

My dog had his name ( I now realise that's not a good idea ) my mobile number and postcode
I don't think there us much point in putting I am neutered on dogs tags a quick look would tell you but it's a good idea for bitches.

janj2301 · 06/08/2019 17:43

I thought all dogs had to be chipped by law. So all the "good" owners who bother about tags will also have chipped their pets.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 06/08/2019 17:49

Surname and address, by law. Phone number is also an excellent idea as it's the quickest way for the dog's finder to contact you.

Anyone who doesn't have a tag with details on and loses their dog will usually find it down at the pound and have to pay a fee to get the dog back. Ordinary people can read tags and phone the owner but we don't carry microchip scanners. There's a reason why having BOTH is a legal requirement.

Floralnomad · 06/08/2019 17:49

We have surname , house number , postcode and mobile no . I don’t see the point of putting microchipped or neutered as if some scumbag wanted to steal him I doubt they would bother to read his tag first or put him back when they had .
