Waterproof coast for secondary school???

DD has a warm winter coat that will do her another year & will be suitable for her first year at high school.

But now she will be walking to secondary school (Y7) - or cycling - she will need a raincoat/waterproof coat suitable for autumn/spring/layering over blazer etc.

Thing is I remember my Mum buying me a raincoat for secondary school and I never wore it - not once. So I don;t want to spend lots of £££ to have her never wear it.

I'm very out of touch as to what school girls will be wearing. Should I wait for a while until she settles into school? Is "cool" a factor?

What to your tweens wear for school bound waterproofing? I'm kind of confused here so advice welcome. TIA

My kids have always worn coats when cold or wet as well. It's a mix round here I've noticed, half the kids never wear one and half do. Even within my daughters friendship group it's like that.

I always get my kids to choose their more expensive items rather that me just ordering something, this way it's much more likely to get worn!

DD has a winter coat she will wear if the weather is really cold. Otherwise the blazer with jumper underneath seems enough. It seems to be that is has to be freezing or a coat stays at home.

She has a packamac in school colours she takes if it rains a lot on the way to school and her umbrella is not enough.

My DD wears a coat, as do her friends.

DD also has a packamac that lives in her rucksack so if it rains on a day she hasn't got a coat or umbrella she doesn't get too soaked.

OP, at least get a cheap packamac. Then you have done your bit, and if she chooses not to wear it that's her problem.

We are having a "buy random stuff doe high school" shopping day in a couple of weeks - I'll add a packamac type thing to the list.

I agree DD should be deciding so she can't complain.

Mine wore trench coats, dd2 switched to a cycling waterproof when she started cycling
