Legality of Working from home

My neighbour 2 doors away is a mechanic, he works away during the day but in the evenings and weekends he mends cars in his driveway and runs a recovery van.
They've lived here about a year. Me and my other neighbour are getting abit fed up of the noise, banging, engines running, cars coming and going etc.
I'm wondering If it's legal to do this from his house or do we just put up with it?
He does make sure He never parks a car outside our house which is good but otherwise there aren't many positives.

It'd depend on his deeds, there's no standard law against working at home. You could report it as a noise nuisance, but I'd talk to him first, if he's tried to be courteous with parking and things. Maybe he can do more to muffle the sound or limit working hours etc.

If he has clients coming to drop off & pick up their cars at his house then the council needs to know. If there are no clients coming to his house he's within his rights to work from home. You could report the noise though or have a word with him if he's approachable.

which law means that the council has a say if someone comes to his house?

I can't say I see many people come and go but the cars don't arrive by themselves so I'm guessing people must drop them off. There's also oil on the pavement and car parts all over his front garden.
I think it's made worse because before they moved in a very quiet single lady lived there so this is a shock to the system Smile

Not sure if reporting him will get you anywhere as he can easily pretend he's just fixing cars for friends free of charge. And not working /earning from his house.

Could you have a chat with him and ask him to clean up the oil? And keep noise to a minimum
