My 5 year old gets dla. He was diagnosed woth Asd on Wednesday. I know you have to update them on changes that affect the child's needs but not sure of this is classed as one of them? Does anyone have any idea? I don't want to not update then be in trouble for not telling them.

I’m
Not a hundred percent sure, but DLA is based on needs, not a diagnosis. If his needs haven’t changed than I probably wouldn’t bother

RubberTreePlant · 04/08/2019 17:22

I would. I know his needs haven[t changed just because he's got his dx, but it's only a quick phone call.

I would not in case they reassess and take it away. If his needs are the same as described in your initial application, then a diagnosis is neither here nor there. I would say do not draw attention to yourself if not needed!

I didn't. We had to renew 18 months later anyway so we just sent in his diagnosis paperwork then.

I just updated when renewal came about. You should get written proof so keep a hold of that letter.

Harleyisme · 04/08/2019 19:12

I will update at next renewal. Thanks everyone.
