Why aren’t birds using new bird feeder

I bought a bird feed in Wilkinson’s last Sunday. It has 3 hanging feeders - one with niger seeds, one with peanuts and one with mixed seeds. There is also a platform which I have put some meal worms on. So far not one single bird has visited. What am I doing wrong?

The birds must be on Mumsnet - several tits on the feeder this morning!! They are flying from either the hedge or the tree, but I will move it nearer the hedge as advised

I put suet balls out and the birds absolutely love them. It's costing me a fortune though!

Sometimes though the birds you have in your area may not like what’s on offer

This is true. I have had 12 species of birds on my feeders this winter and none of them have touched the niger seeds. Even when everything else ran out, they ignored them. Suet balls and mealworms get eaten like they are going out of fashion.

Re squirrels
I cut the bottom off a 2l soft drink bottle and enough off the top to thread onto the pole. Put holes near the top and wire it onto pole, a couple of feet up.
Or even better, buy Metal Slinky toy and attach that. Squirrel jumps on, bounces and hates it!
I have a combo of both and no problem with squirrels any more.

Whenever I have introduced a new bird feeder it takes a while for the birds to use it even though it's right next to the old one.

Seed does make a difference and since switching to sunflower hearts my garden is innovated with birds hence the multiple feeders.
