How does the copper coil stop pregnancy?

From what I believe the sperm is destroyed by the copper coil.

What I don’t understand is the reason I can’t have unprotected sex for 1 week before the coil is removed.

What are the chances of pregnancy if I had it removed and had sex within 1 week? Can sperm get passed the coil and survive and fertilise the egg and then the coil stop implantation?

The copper itself is toxic to sperm but if any do happen to get past it to reach the egg, the coil stops the egg from implanting. If you had unprotected sex prior to having it removed there is a chance some sperm could have survived and of they reach the egg there would be nothing to stop it implanting and a pregnancy occurring.
