... will you Please give them some fucking headphones!!!!!!!

I have no issues at all with DCs being given a tablet for entertainment. But why do they have to have to sound on too for everyone else to hear in restaurants, waiting rooms, on flights, etc?

Seriously... why?

Extends to adults to. And teens.

I couldn't agree more!
My youngest has CP with severe global delay and autistic elements to her behaviour. She hated things in her head and ripped hats and headbands off.
When we got her a tablet, i took her to a bench on the promenade at a quiet time, offered her her tablet, put her headphones on - she ripped them off and protested vocally (she's non-verbal) I explained very clearly no headphones no tablet. After repeating this a few times, she conceded. very soon it became a "rule" that she policed herself.
If I can do it with DD2, I reckon 99% of children will tolerate it with a little work from parents, including SEN children.
it just isn't acceptable to subject other people in coffee shop or on a train or plane to Peppa Pig or whatever.

Amen!!! We were at a family holiday resort and spent time talking over dinner with our child, not the most amusing for us every night but think it's important. We only have one so they are out numbered so I get thats easier but every second or third table had at least one child watching iPad or whatever with the sound on loud. Bloody headphones ffs!!!!

LightDrizzle · 01/08/2019 19:51
  • and there are cheap over-ear headphones with low top volume restrictions designed for children easily available.
BringOnTheScience · 01/08/2019 20:37

SO pleased to hear that it's not just me being intolerant Smile

Definitely! Headphones or device on silent. No-one wants to hear a tinny noisy Peppa Pig for the duration of a flight or whilst they are trying to eat a meal.

RadioSpice · 01/08/2019 20:58

I know this isn't AIBU but YADNBU! And yes, as per PP, this definitely applies to adults as well.

Just last week, there was this woman watching Love bloody Island on her iPad sans earphones in the middle of a semi-crowded coffeeshop. Of course, everyone was too 'nice' to say anything so thanks to this kind lady, I, despite never having seen a single episode of that show, have a favourite 'character'. Confused

FishyMcFishyfingersFace · 01/08/2019 21:03

Definitely need earphones, headphones etc.

We have 4 dc so you can imagine the kind of tech we have. If they don't take earphones they don't have the sound on. The only place I can think of where we are not so strict is church! But this is before or after meetings when they won't disturb anyone else cos we're drinking coffee and chatting and making more noise ourselves, or they go into another room. During meetings if they are not taking part then they use earphones or no sound.

BringOnTheScience · 01/08/2019 22:12

Flight to come on holiday... 5 children in the rows behind, in front, and beside us (5 children between 9 seats) all had tablets or phones with the sound on.

Agree. Some parents have got very selfish - I've witnessed loud tablets on planes, in restaurants, in hospital A&E departments etc.
No consideration for others at all..

user27495824 · 01/08/2019 22:21

Yes! This has wound me up big time when eating out a couple of times. I can't believe what I'm reading that people have done it on planes! I think restaurants and flight attendants should crack down on it.

codenameduchess · 01/08/2019 22:21

Yes! Recently on a 4 hour flight, while my own dd sat with her headphones on watching a movie, a kid behind played the same episode of peppa fucking pig over and over while screaming and kicking my seat.... while his mum cooed over how cute he was 😒

And it's not just kids, teens (and young adults I guess) walking around playing music on phones or making calls on speaker- no one gives a shit, get some headphones!

Yestermo · 01/08/2019 22:25

Fucking selfish bastards. And maybe as a crazy idea they could actually engage with their child whilst out. pretty certain they don't at home either. Poor kids will have fuck all social skills.

chachaboom · 01/08/2019 22:29

Yes! Witnessed at the airport and ON THE PLANE this week. Child and an (unrelated) man child with blaring tinny bloody phone noise.

I'd make it law that you have to use headphones with phones.

More of us need to call this shit out, we are too polite.

LillyBugg · 01/08/2019 22:32

Can anyone recommend some headphones which can be used while wearing glasses? My DS was so good at wearing his headphones until the recent addition of his glasses and now he complain they dig into the side of his head and hurt.

madeyemoodysmum · 01/08/2019 22:50

Totally agree!!!

goldpendant · 01/08/2019 23:07

Agree!

Airlines should provide child sized headphones though for child tickets, tablets are so commonplace and on long haul flights my kids headphones often don't fit the airlines two-prong socket....
