What’s in a name?

Browsing Rightmove and frequently come across perfectly nice houses with an ugly address. One that springs to mind is Norman Troller Court. Now I’m sure Norman Troller was a perfectly nice man who carried out his civic duties admirably but call me shallow, I’d think twice about having my address named after him. Or worse still, Creasen Butt Close? Mr Creasen Butt was, I’m given to understand, also a local councillor.

Or silly addresses such as roads a couple of miles from me called Twitty Fee, Little Dorrit or Daen Ingas. Is the address of a property a factor in deciding whether to buy a particular house? Would you be put off by an ugly postal address?

No. Although apparently I am beneath hope because I said cockburn street cock burn, rather than co burn.

Our council no longer names after people just in case in years to come, one of them is another Savill.
