Hi. I'm asking this for a friend. Sorry if this is a bit long plz bear with me.
My friend had her 5th baby in May 2019 he was 7 weeks early and still weighed a big 8lb 7oz. My friend is diabetic (not pregnancy diabetes) so all 5 of her children have been born quite heavy and swollen due to her medication.
Now when her son was born because he was premature he was fed through a tube for the first 2wks, another 2wks later he was allowed home. Not long after he was having trouble breathing, either he'd breath too fast or he'd stop breathing and start to turn blue. Hospital tests showed a murmur or echo.
Today 31st July my friend had her first proper appointment with a consultant. She expected answers. Instead she was told her baby is overweight, he know weighs 14lbs so 1 stone which is what he should weight at 6 months not 2 months. She has to put him on a diet and swap some milk feeds for water instead. He said he would not continue to test for the murmur/echo until "the child" loses weight. She understands that anyone classed as overweight puts a strain on their heart but now has to put him on this diet and wait another 3 months for the new appointment.
I said to her that surely if she carried him to full term he probably would have been born around 11lbs then gaining 3lbs over 2months would be normal? I've also advised her to book an appointment with her surgery rather than wait 3 months for a second opinion.
Just wonderin really if anyone have been in a similar situation at all or can advise anything for her?
She's proper pissed off and stressed as she was hoping for answers today.
Thank you for reading all that and thank u to anyone who comments.
