Distraction doesn't work well for me unfortunately, at the moment I rely on:
Breathing- 4 secs in, 6 secs out and using a timer to do it exactly.
Cuddling the dog.
Calling a family member/friend for support.
I'm on medicine for the anxiety (Prozac) and it's pretty good but for some reason it doesn't completely get rid of the panic attacks. They're usually really random too, not brought on by anything significant.
