How do you pack to move?

Buying a new build, it will be ready on or before 30th August. We've told them we don't want to move until 2nd September.

Issue is that we are on holiday from 23rd Aug to 1st September. Logistically how do we do this? Do we leave our house boxed before we go? I guess we have to and then when we get back on the Sunday pack final things and take down the curtains and things?

One removal company want to come the day before, but that won't work for us.

I can't get my head around this and it just feels a bit insecure leaving our house boxed up. We have good neighbours who will be coming in twice a day to feed the cat, but still seems odd.

I've got some boxes, husband is clearing the shed and garage, I just don't know how or when to start.

Sounds ok but remember you will be very tired after travelling and it does sound stressful to do it this way.

As you have plenty of time, begin by packing all things which are not in daily use.

So ornaments, clothing you won't wear in the coming weeks, cushions, spare bedding and rugs can all be packed.

Paperwork...and books...get them boxed up and LABEL EVERYTHING clearly.

In the kitchen, pack as much as possible. Leave only a few plates and cups and a couple of pans plus kettle.

Clear the food cupboards and fridge...wash them,

That's the other thing you know. Cleaning can only be done properly once the house is completely empty.

Is it a rental? If it is, I'd try to shift your move in date.

No, we are purchasing, we've done a part-ex and the builder has a buyer so in a semi-chain. They want us in on the 30th, the house will be finished in the next week or so, but the road needs doing which they can't guarantee the date off, but before 30th.

Pickfords want to come the day before to load and store overnight, but I don't think we can make that work. Other company are saying 4 people to take 4hrs to load out and 4hrs unload.

How clean do we have to leave it? Hoovered, skirting boards wiped, bathrooms clean and kitchen clean is about all I was going to do.

Get the moving company to pack up before you leave and put I storage for the holiday. Then move in on the 2nd. Will cost a bit more but will also take a lot of stress away.

Our quote was £1700 without packing, we simply can't afford that really.

I think we are going to have to come home on the friday from holiday. We are driving to scotland from the south so a long way to go for 5 days.
