We go on holiday in 2 weeks and the kids' passports have expired!

Shit, shit, shit!! Just got the passports out to complete our Eurotunnel booking and discovered the DC's passports ran out last month. We were both convinced that they had another year before renewal. What do we do? We have a local passport office in Durham but I'm not sure if they do same day applications for kids.

Calling the passport office seems the logical solution. Ask them how to go about getting them turned around quickly and then take it from there

With a fortnight I'm sure you'll be fine

xyzandabc · 30/07/2019 20:16

You go to the passport office website and see if Durham do quick kids passports.
If they don't, then look further on the website to see where does do quick kids passports and how you book an appointment or send it off. Then you follow the instructions they give.
There will be far better and correct info on the official website than asking randoms on the internet.

I think you can do a week renewal for the kids so if you can get there tomorrow it should be enough time

They are quite quick at the moment as I did mine through the post office and it took about 8 days

RainOrSun · 30/07/2019 20:19

One week turn around for kids on fast track.

7yo7yo · 30/07/2019 20:20

Got mine back in 4 days. Did them on my phone

Singleandproud · 30/07/2019 20:21

I’ve just renewed DDs and it took about 11 days including sending our court order and old passport on.

You could potentially get the ball rolling tonight if you have someone that can countersign. You can take the photo on your phone submit it and them give them the details of your countersignatory. Email that person the necessary details about DC so they can fill it in ASAP. It would be cutting it awfully close though.

I applied for DS's first adult passport on the Thursday and sent his old child passport away on the Saturday special delivery. He had the new one by Tuesday. That's with the standard service (we had 6 weeks to play with). Get out assorted tomorrow and you'll be fine.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 30/07/2019 20:24

*it sorted

TattiePants · 30/07/2019 20:26

Looks like I can get an appointment on either Monday or Tuesday at Durham and would then have the passports a week later. That will be £250 for both Sad. Given that a few people have had a very quick turnaround recently, I might give them a call first to see what the likelihood of receiving them in time if I apply online.

I renewed my two DC's online and had them both back within the two weeks, just on the normal service so I think you should be fine if you can use the fast track service

AnyFucker · 30/07/2019 20:30

I wouldn't risk it, tbh

Pay the £250 and make that a lesson learned Smile

BlueCornsihPixie · 30/07/2019 20:38

Don't risk it and just pay, imagine if you didn't get it in time?

TattiePants · 30/07/2019 20:41

Any Fucker there's nothing I can do until tomorrow now so I might as well ring at 8am and get their advice. If there's any chance the normal service won't get them here in time I won't risk it.

I'm an accountant FFS, I check everything!

How did you get on with the passport office op? I can't fault the service when I renewed my DC's but I'm not sure I'd be brave enough not to do it fast track with your timescale

TattiePants · 31/07/2019 09:54

@mossmurray I've booked an appointment for Monday and paid the £254 (silently weeps). The lady I spoke to said there was a good chance I'd get them back in time using the standard service but I'm not brave enough to chance it!
