I know I shouldn't laugh at other peoples' mistakes, but when I see this I imagine hordes of naked women dancing around.

Well spotted Grin

Happynow001 · 31/07/2019 01:11

Per say is one that makes me look twice..

Pieceofpurplesky · 31/07/2019 01:17

I read this on faceache the other day ..
Myself and my mum lit rally fell over in shock

Smotheroffive · 31/07/2019 01:29

I think that is quite sad, not being able to spell literally. I think it's different from not knowing the reasoning behind an expression.

I dont know where 'toe/wing the line' came feotm, and what makes sense to me is that you are following what others do, towing like a rope, but if its toeing, then I've no idea what that's about.

picklemepopcorn · 31/07/2019 08:12

Line up with your toes on the line (military?)- well disciplined and following orders.

lo and behold- it's an King James Bible phrase, so would have been very familiar way back when.

Now it autocorrects to 'lol and behold'. Grin

Bunnylady53 · 31/07/2019 08:20

“ Board” instead of “ bored” is another one

Isthisafreename · 31/07/2019 08:56

The person called in to visit Mary and I.

Just because there is an "and" before it doesn't mean it should be "I". It drives me insane. I actually read it in a book I was reading recently.

And "Recommend me a book or whatever".

user1493494961 · 31/07/2019 09:01

These annoy me alot.

NoSauce · 31/07/2019 09:10

The amount of loosing/loose on MN instead of losing and lose is weird. It’s like more people don’t know which one to use than do.

NoSauce · 31/07/2019 09:11

Alot and abit are used often now too.

WHY?

Reallybadidea · 31/07/2019 09:12

I was laid on the bed reading this.

Reallybadidea · 31/07/2019 09:16

It's not just alot and abit (my autocorrect doesn't even like them ffs!) - I'm increasingly seeing every day written as everyday.

BinkyandBunty · 31/07/2019 09:21

Stag doo was my favourite ever on here.

Too instead of to is an internet epidemic. To is one of the very first words we learn to spell as little kids, why do so many people fuck it up now?

fedup21 · 31/07/2019 09:50

One of my FB friends (mum from school) posted that she was going to become a councillor.

On further investigation, it turned out she was going to be a counsellor.

Let’s hope if she is a counsellor now, she knows the difference otherwise it might really restrict her client base.

timeforakinderworld · 31/07/2019 10:43

"Recommend me a book or whatever".
What's wrong with that?

Teacakeandalatte · 31/07/2019 10:52

I've always thought it was towing the line as in pulling a rope too.

StayAChild · 31/07/2019 10:55

I read the bare mistake and lots of others mentioned here so many times I'm having to think twice when I write it myself.
The boarder one is a regular in the Brexit forum.

julensaor · 31/07/2019 11:03

Bare with me, I want to talk about something pacific; I want to persue something I would of done when I was younger IYSWIM. I defiantly want to do it. Now it’s an invitation not a summons to read this and I think I want to LTB and go NC. Now I have a PFB and I use silk wipes and that is the cause of the disscussion per say. Before you answer me you vipers are all wrong and I am going to do what i want to do anyway because I hate my MIL, she is a narcissicist, IYSWIM.

julensaor · 31/07/2019 11:15

Ps Don't want to drop feed but I am one of the woke now.

AdaColeman · 31/07/2019 11:29

The origin of "to toe the line" is obscure, some think it refers to the House of Commons where opposing sides were kept more than a sword's length apart by lines on the floor, others think that its origins are from the Royal Navy where the lines on the deck gave the different groups of seamen their correct position to stand when called to muster.

Isthisafreename · 31/07/2019 12:03

@timeforakinderworld - "Recommend me a book or whatever". What's wrong with that?

It should be "Recommend a book to me"

You can recommend me to someone or recommend something to me.

Knittedfairies · 31/07/2019 12:10

I notice the misuse of queue and cue from time time, and que has even put in an appearance.

LookImAHooman · 31/07/2019 13:01

‘Every day’, when you are referring to sets of 24-hour periods and not something ordinary or mundane: TWO FUCKING WORDS. TWO.

TWOOOOOOOO.

PandaToTheMasses · 31/07/2019 13:01

Without further adieu I must say this thread strikes a core with me.
