I know I shouldn't laugh at other peoples' mistakes, but when I see this I imagine hordes of naked women dancing around.

OP posts:

I keep spotting 'low and behold' and it makes me want to cry.

skippy67 · 30/07/2019 18:37

Discusting is another one that winds me up!

Jinglejanglefish · 30/07/2019 21:34

gobbynorthernbird

I had to Google that to see what the problem was! To be fair, if you've only ever heard it said out loud then it's a pretty easy mistake.

northernlites · 30/07/2019 22:09

I find it unbearable when people say 'I aksed her' instead of asked Angry
What is that about??

gobbynorthernbird · 30/07/2019 23:26

@Jinglejanglefish so are bear/bare, toe/tow, break/brake etc.

overnightangel · 30/07/2019 23:30

It’s not fair to make people with spelling and grammar problems Escape Goats

NorberErratics · 31/07/2019 00:06

so are bear/bare, toe/tow, break/brake etc.

Who the heck hasn't seen both of all those homonyms written down - you just need to think for a moment what a phrase means surely to know which is correct?

OTOH 'lo' has pretty much dropped out of normal usage.

NorberErratics · 31/07/2019 00:10

At least that makes sense, etymologically.
Scapegoat:
'mid 16th century: from archaic scape ‘escape’ + goat.'

Queue lots of pedants joining in!
Your all loosers!

LightDrizzle · 31/07/2019 00:18

Yourselves are really upsetting myself with all this nitpicking.

Mummyofbabyandcats · 31/07/2019 00:19

I'm on route to look for the other thread

NorberErratics · 31/07/2019 00:19

You could have made that 'queue' even worse, at least you didn't use 'que'.Grin

RedHatsDoNotSuitMe · 31/07/2019 00:21

The amount of curbs on parking threads make my teeth hurt! Dropped curbs, quite often.

Predictive text and auto-correct are both bastards, though. Especially for spelling and grandma (see what I did there) nazis.

LightDrizzle · 31/07/2019 00:22

God yes! I’ve seen that too! “Que cbf from MIL”

Bunnylady53 · 31/07/2019 00:28

“ I really want too” - aagh! I know of some well educated people who misuse “ to” & “ too”. And don’t get me started on “ should of”! Oh & “ aloud” when it should be “ allowed”. I know some of it is predictive text & I absolutely understand that people could be dyslexic but a lot of the time there’s just no excuse. I really wonder what people learn in school!

Katinski · 31/07/2019 00:29

I'm a member of a local gardening club and I was recently invited to visit a (male) member's garden. So along I went, admired his horticultural efforts then was invited in for lunch. We had salad from the garden, tomatoes from his greenhouse - and a quicky Grin

NorberErratics · 31/07/2019 00:31

'Curb' was the earlier spelling of 'kerb', and of course still is the norm in the US.

CherithPonsonby · 31/07/2019 00:34

We stopped for sausage rolls en croute.

FlamedToACrisp · 31/07/2019 00:37

I prefer a barbeque

MrsIronfoundersson · 31/07/2019 00:45

Can I just add 'ay wallah'! My favourite.

Smotheroffive · 31/07/2019 00:46

Good god, on route bothers me, its even on the predictive text. All the americanisms with the z's (realize, grrr) and the missing 'u' (color), the should of's, but i have noticed absolutely loads of 'baring' this week Blush.

The off/of and the there/eir/y're.

It does make reading the sense harder! Auto-correct does play games though and often incorrect spellings slip through thought.

TwistyTop · 31/07/2019 00:46

Nude with me

bionicnemonic · 31/07/2019 00:48

I think you’ve all done fantastic!
Ect ect

Smotheroffive · 31/07/2019 00:48

(male) member's garden. f'ner f'ner

The member belonging to the male (titter, titter)

Was the last word deliberate or did Muphry's Law strike again?Grin
