Child Tax Credits overpayment

Anyone know how this works?

We've claimed CTC since our 7yo was born as eligible and had high childcare costs. Added dc2 when they arrived and always updated them on payrises etc.

The day we used our final day of paid childcare we called and informed them. Obviously that made us ineligible for CTC and so they stopped. Fine.

That was July 2018. We have just had our forms through to confirm info for 18/19 And returned them.

They have written to confirm that we owe £203. Yet we didn't claim for a day longer than we should have.

And the calculation for 18/19 was done as a 12th split each month, we had CTC April, May, June, July. Which are the months we used paid childcare.

I'm just not sure how the calculation works.

To be flippant I dont think anyone knows how CTC works, including those who do the calculations.

Phone them up and ask for your file, think its called a SARs and go through it, make sure you have updated everything, then go through the appeal process.

Tax credits are calculated on a whole tax year basis, not month by month.

Were your earnings for the tax year higher than what they had recorded?

They will have worked put your payments based on £xxxx income but if you actually earned £yyyy this would alter how much you should have been getting.

Nope, income the same as stated.

It's just mad that we received 4 weeks worth, for each of the 4 weeks wenused childcare. And it was based on us paying 52 weeks of childcare over 52 weeks.
