Motorhome questions/tips please

Probably should post this in camping but just after traffic for now. We’re off on our first (hired) motorhome holiday on Saturday and although we’re well seasoned campers this is our first time on wheels.

Just after any essential tips really.....if you’ve got a motorhome what couldn’t you do without?

Kids are belted into seats in the dining area but the van does have a TV and DVD player. Can you run the DVD player while in transit? We have portable DVD players for the car but they need a lighter socket. Just wondering if they can use the main DVD player on the long stretches of journey so they don’t kill each other?

Anything else I need to plan in advance?

Thanks

We have a caravan, looking forward to to doing Scotland next year.

I get bitten a lot, and use citronella spray and t lights for the critters. Seem to work ok as only get a few.

I also pack all our clothes in the packing cubes, so I can get to it all easily (our van is old and storage is not great), so all knickers in one, all vest tops in another etc
My friend used to pack entire outfits into plastic bags for her boys and label them so she could just pile them up and pull a fresh one out each day.

I'd love a motor home, but as we tend to park up for a week and explore from that bad, DH said it was to much faff to unhook and move it all the time and if he was going to have to tow a small car, he might as wekl tow a caravan!

We tow a 31 ft travel trailer using a 1 ton diesel pickup. Total hitched length is 52 ft. We have one slide out. It has all the comforts of home.

I don't tow, DH does. I'm the copilot & navigator. I could do it I suppose but I'm too chicken.

We'd love to have one of those huge motorhomes, but they're waaayyy out of the budget! We've looked at them but the ones we like average around $250,000-350,000. And the resale value sucks.

We just got back from a 7000 mile, 2 month road trip. California to Florida (Disney), then to the Smokies (Tennessee) and then up to Yellowstone (Wyoming). We usually do one long trip a year plus lots of shorter trips. We're already talking about where we want to go for our big trip next year!

RVing is addictive! And the US is so huge you never run out of places to go. Plus there's always Canada! We're thinking of Banff next year.
