Mixing cleaning products.

I am currently having an argument on Facebook in a cleaning group. They seem to think mixing cleaning stuff or using products in a way they are not supposed to be used is okay.

This whole cleaning popularity thing is just making people mad if they think doing this is good surely.

What products are they mixing? Some produce toxic vapours if mixed.

Skyejuly · 30/07/2019 08:41

Some people have absolutely no idea about chemicals reacting.

isabellerossignol · 30/07/2019 08:41

They'll not be arguing when they've inhaled toxic gases...

Let me guess, they're mixing bleach and Zoflora?

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 30/07/2019 08:53

All of those. Admin come on and say please don’t mix stuff. The next post is about how to co clean a certain thing and people are mixing chemicals left right and centre.

Apparently I’m an idiot for suggesting not to. Hmm

Because people don’t read that zoflora is flammable. So yes. Add it to candles !!!!!

They really are chlorinating the gene pool.

isabellerossignol · 30/07/2019 09:02

Do posts like these appear on the discussion?

'I've been doing it for years hun and I've never blown up my toilet/choked to death, it's fine'

'She asked for advice about cleaning, not for judgement. Some people are so nasty. Don't listen to them'.

theneverendinglaundry · 30/07/2019 09:03

What I find insane is when people top up their plug ins and oil burners with Zoflora. It is MADNESS.

And then I bet they'd be in the Daily Mail doing sadface when their house burns down ...

Haggisfish · 30/07/2019 09:04

Oh my god!! Do people really do that?Confused chlorine s the gas released when bleach products are mixed with certain chemicals. Bet these people also whinged ‘what’s the point of learning science’ when they were at school!

titchy · 30/07/2019 09:05

There are people discussing cleaning in FB groups? Shock

Stillstrawberrywater · 30/07/2019 09:51

I blame Mrs Hinch. She uses a multitude of different products from all accounts. Her carefully orchestrated marketing campaign to attract all her followers is a large part for this cleaning fad and her followers literally copy and stay loyal to her like disciples.

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 30/07/2019 10:33

I think it is the way I was attacked for even suggesting that mixing them was a bad idea Hmm

OP posts:
Stillstrawberrywater · 30/07/2019 10:41

As I say those people on those mrs hinch fb groups are fiercely loyal to her ways of cleaning. It's quite strange.

CitadelsofScience · 30/07/2019 10:46

Is this a Mrs Hinch group?

I've had some fabulous arguments with people in those groups with people tossing zoflora soaked cotton wool pads into their vacuum cleaners and various other stupid practices.

You can't help stupid I'm afraid.

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 30/07/2019 11:55

It baffles me. It really does. Read the back of instructions!

Don't people notice the smell though?

Sometimes I've used a few different products in the bathroom (maybe bleach in the loo and something for mould on the tiles) and then I've thought oops! and had to turn the extractor fan on.

WiltedDaffs · 30/07/2019 12:42

Don’t mix anything acidic with bleach, as it’ll release chlorine gas.

That said I did try it at work once (in a fume cupboard!) and couldn’t bleach litmus paper (the test for chlorine) with it. Had better luck with Milton sterilising tablets! It was old bleach though and I wouldn’t mix it up at home, don’t fancy a greenish cloud coming out of my loo!

I was in a someones house once and witnessed them pouring bleach onto their plug in. But it was OK, they only did it 'really slowly so it only just wet the insides of it'. Never mind the liquid near the electric socket problem ...

I was gobsmacked.

theneverendinglaundry · 30/07/2019 13:36

@benwillbondspants but WHY? Did they want their house to smell of bleach or did they feel the need to cleanse the inside of the plug in of germs???

BenWillbondsPants · 30/07/2019 13:54

They wanted the 'clean' smell of bleach! @theneverendinglaundry

I've never been so uncomfortable in anyone's home before or since. She always handed guests a piece of kitchen towel with a cup of tea and requested that they wipe the bottom of their mug before placing it on the coaster. If you went to the loo, she would be waiting outside the door to clean the toilet after you'd been for a wee. Looking back, the poor woman clearly had some major issues, but although she had a beautiful home, it wasn't a nice place to be.
