Worried I have cervical cancer

I am 28, 2 kids and last smear was 2.5 years ago. All clear.

2 years ago I had the copper coil inserted and experienced heavy periods and spotting between periods. This continued for 2 years.

Something made me a little concerned over the weekend and I decided to go and see the Gp. She said she would take a smear test. Upon checking she took a swab and said actually there was no point in taking a smear test and she wanted to do an urgent referral to a gynaecologist.

I asked why and she said she could see something and it was bleeding and she wants an expert opinion.

I’m shaking, crying and need some reassurance.

Good news, and as they didn’t seem to be worried about the appearance of your cervix, hopefully you have nothing at all to worry about. Definitely go to your next smear when invited, for additional reassurance.

I had a similar experience, had a check up for something GP said she can see something on my cervix, said it had an appearance that could be sinister, I was a wreck, I was seen by a gynecological oncologist within 3 days, I was terrified. Was a cyst, he was a little suprised by the GP but if she wasn't sure then she absolutely did the right thing. I hope all settles for you.

Highly likely it's the coil. My friend had a horrendous time with the copper coil. First gp wouldnt remove because shed only had it in 6 months, however, had bled constantly for those 6 months. Second gp wouldnt remove said to give it time. She eventually had it removed at sexual health clinic after 18 months. Every single problem went with it.

I have a cervical ectropian. Nurse told me at my smear. Said a non issue unless it causes problems like spotting between periods or bleeding after sex. So far it hasn't but if it does it's a simple procedure to stop it

Hi @Sandhead1, wondered how you are now? Has the spotting stopped?

Worrywart21 · 08/08/2019 22:15

Yes the spotting has stopped. Instantly once the coil was removed.

But I’m pregnant.

I haven’t had sex since the coil was removed and according to my app I was fertile a week before the coil was removed so yeah. Massive shock.
