I need to rant about my MIL after my hubby, teenager & I endured a week away with her and the FIL. She wanted total control. She criticised my every move, from boiling eggs, cutting lettuce, buying the wrong sun cream, everything I wore looked "cheap" and she now views me as an alcoholic because I had a few drinks, which TBH I needed to get through each day. She even got the airport to put a tannoy out for hubby, teenager & I because we'd boarded the plane in a different queue & she hadn't seen us. She told our teenager that I'm a bad Mum, (which my teenager rejected & argued with her about) & informed her that nobody is as close to her sons as her. BTW #1 son has been happily married to me for 18 years & #2 son is a drug addict who she enables by paying all his bills and dealers....

Good on your teenager!

Has MIL always been hard work? I must admit I’ve stopped seeing guys whose mothers were hard work before. My MIL is lovely but I do sympathise !

She is a loving Grandma and an interfering pain in the arse!

You won't be having any more holidays with them then, will you?

diazipan01 · 29/07/2019 07:21

Absolutely not!

I'd not be going away with her again or accepting anything that could be used against me

diazipan01 · 29/07/2019 07:26

I agree. You live & learn!

Ahhh damn atleast she has redeeming features!

Was the holiday worth the comments?

Yogagirl123 · 29/07/2019 07:34

I completely understand OP.

We used to holiday with MIL, but we stopped as it was getting harder every year, for a few reasons.

MIL is very fussy with food, and eating out was stressful, rather than a pleasure!

She doesn’t like long journeys either.

We have a awful trip one xmas when there was nothing but moans, nothing we did was right, she was in a mood before we set off.

Our car was also too small for 5 as our DS’ became taller teens.

We go abroad now, and there is no way she would travel by aircraft, so she wouldn’t want to now in any case.

Which is a blessing, i know it sounds mean, but we find holidays just the four of us so much easier.

A loving grandma, who puts a child's mother down to child's face? How is that loving? What care does that show?

Loving the tannoy message though that's hilarious I'm surprised she didn't ask them to berate you in the message
