My teenager has an old iPhone 5. As he is allowed more freedom out by himself I have been using find my iPhone which I can access on his MacBook. I would like to be able to have something on my phone? App that I can use when out too. I don’t have an iPhone. I’ve a Motorola.
What’s the best way to do this?

Why do you want to track his whereabouts? Do you not trust him to say he is where he says he’s going or are you fearful for his safety?

He’s a bit vulnerable and I’m a bit anxious! He’s fully aware and in agreement! He’s also lost the phone twice- both times recovered by the goodness of strangers!

Oh ok.

Is your phone an android phone? I don’t know anything about Motorola but I found this

Charity wristbands with your phone number written on the inside are a discreet way for a child to carry your number should their phone be lost/stolen etc

Download an app called Life360 (it’s free) and works really well.

You can track it via their website but you would need to know the AppleID/password he uses for his phone.

Google Maps does location sharing for free.

So both times the lost phone was found by strangers, not by tracking. And as for being "a bit anxious" how on earth does having a tracker help.

He likes you to know where he is? What's the point? He could be attacked by a pack of rabid leprechauns, there is nothing you could do about it, it's very very very very bizzare logic.

Hmm

We have an app called Life 360 on our phones, but they are all androids, so I don't know if they do that one for the iPhone. It's free (I think you can upgrade, but we haven't bothered) and for what we've used it for so far it's been good. We have 3 phones linked through it.
