I’ve found a letter dated 1912

I have recently bought an old property to renovate in my spare time.

It’s a little terraced house, dating back to 1800ish

Upon purchase I was given a box of deeds, some crumbly, some burnt, and others in fairly good condition.

At the bottom of the box was this letter.

I can’t really read it very well, and I’m not even sure it relates to the property!

Would anyone care to help me translate?

howwudufeel · 28/07/2019 16:37

I can’t make it out but I would get those professionally framed and put them above the fireplace.

StealthPolarBear · 28/07/2019 16:37

something about being called away, being taken away, thankful for something

DrDetriment · 28/07/2019 16:40

He was called away because his mother was ill and was then taken ill himself. He talks about letters being forwarded or meant to have been forwarded but hasn't heard anything. He apologises for troubling the recipient with this.

Lisette1940 · 28/07/2019 16:41

Poor soul had rhumatic fever while visiting his mother, who was also ill. He's been trying to organise for his rent to be paid, I think.

RB68 · 28/07/2019 16:41

taken ill not away

xcvbnm · 28/07/2019 16:42

First page says something about mother ... then (? the writer) taking ill , thankfully recovering ... next page says something about returning home to their little ones ... think I can see something about a little girl too .

Ends with ‘I beg to apologise’ on the second page :

moreismore · 28/07/2019 16:42

‘ I sent letter by post authorising xxx to send rent to you when it was due and heard nothing’

Stravapalava · 28/07/2019 16:42

This is what I can make out:

... to see the last of my mother and was taken ill myself with rheumatic fever but thankful to say i am...

i hope next week to be able to return to my little ones and... it was quick... when my little girl answered to your letter... recent letter by post to Mr ? authorising them to forward rent when due at ... to you and I heard nothing from them..

I beg to apologise for troubling you with this but I thought it my duty.

Yours,

M Fleming
