chicken pox or just an odd rash?

dd2 came to me and showed me a rash. Some of them look like someone has dotted her with a red pen, and look like there might be something in the middle of them. The rest are more like little raised lumps with out much colour. She says they are itchy.

All of the spots are on her upper chest and down her side, but it looks like something is starting on her back, bothing at all on her face arms or legs.

What are the chances it's an odd rash and not chicken pox?

May be a good idea to post a photo of the spots.

Allergic reaction or heatrash perhaps. Does not sound like cp.

kimlo · 28/07/2019 11:25

not a great picture but because of where they are I can't really post a good picture.

Is there a bigger cluster of spots further up on just one side of the body? Could be shingles

kimlo · 28/07/2019 11:34

the bigger cluster is across her chest. Shes got little spots on her lower back bit they are faint so don't photograph well. It can't be shingles, she's never had chicken pox.

Sometimes they can get very mild chicken pox with hidden spots. Are they on one side of the body or more spread out?

GrandmaSharksDentures · 28/07/2019 11:38

Won't be shingles with that distribution pattern

kimlo · 28/07/2019 11:39

they are more spread out.

My son hasn’t come up with this also. It looks like hot tub folliculitus.

Has she been in a swimming pool over the last few days? Is the rash where her swimmers would have been? It is usually related to the bacteria in the pool and traps under clothing. The hot weather has contributed to it being worse.

Conflicted121 · 28/07/2019 12:23

My son was wearing swim shorts and a shirt so has them over his thighs, bottom, chest and back.

kimlo · 28/07/2019 12:28

no, she hasn't been swimming recently.

I have no idea then. I have seen it loads recently due to paddling pools but I don’t think you can get it otherwise as it is a bacteria in the water. If it is limited to her body and not spreading I would assume that it is something contact related.

Chicken pox presents with what they call a vesicular rash, meaning there are small blisters in the center. These later burst and form scabs. Does this sound like your DD’s rash?

kimlo · 28/07/2019 12:47

some of the bigger ones look like they have a yellow raised center.
