Cold Sores???

treedragon · 28/07/2019 10:06

I have found out cold sores can be triggered by sunlight!

I have two at the moment, one large another small, so I am guessing the recent intense sunshine created this.

Anyone else suffering and any tips for treatment?

More likely your run down, cold sores are a show that you need to look after yourself.

I used to get them every year when we went to Spain when I was a child. I just used Blistex. Luckily don’t get them hardly ever now, but they were really bad back then.

Zovirax cream and keep them covered with cold sore plasters. Speak to a pharmacist.
They are contagious so be very careful about hand washing and using separate towels etc.

I always get them first time the sun comes out properly in spring. I find those little cold sore plasters have changed my life! As soon as you feel the tingle, stick it on. Works brilliantly, much better than zovirax.

I used to use a lip balm with spf in it when I went on holiday or it was very sunny, which prevented them.
I now get them when I am run down too though, so take a lysine supplement all year round which also keeps them at bay.

I'd recommend virulite

For me it stops them even appearing if I catch them at the prodrome stage.

I used to get awful recurring cold sores, so horrible. My GP prescribed acyclovir tablets which you take a course of when you get a cold sore, and since then I’ve had very few. I have a repeat prescription but I’ve only had to use it 3 times in two years, before that I was getting at least one a month, usually more. Also I use liquorice lip balm, no idea if it makes a difference but google once told me it would!
