How many suitcases do you own?

Just wondering...

I have a small silver hard-shell one which is just right for cabin luggage. I also have a large pink/black one that is a good size for a long holiday or a holiday where you need lots of thick clothes etc.

Was eyeing up a nice green medium sized one this afternoon that I thought would complete my luggage collection Grin as sometimes you've got too much for cabin sized but not enough to fill up the large size.

Though I don't really need to buy it as can get by with just large and small in reality.
Plus it's something extra to store.

So it started me wondering on whether other people had...

I live far from my parents... my folks often visit & leave a suitcase behind.
Including softshells, we must have ~20 even though our actual purchased ones can't be more than 5. Several are damaged in some way so have become storage boxes.

DramaAlpaca · 27/07/2019 17:47

Far too many. A few that we use plus lots of old ones in the attic. I must get round to clearing them out at some stage.

FairyBunnyAgain · 27/07/2019 17:48

A loft full, really.
I use regularly my cabin sized bag and my 1 week case and my 2 week case.
Then I have 2 sizes off wheeled soft cases for trips by car or where hard cases are not appropriate.
Plus a set of 4 cases that are the old style which were a wedding gift around 25 years ago and that we used for a good 10 years
DH has at least the same
2 adult DD have a large hard case and fullsize ruck sack each

We have 2 lovely big ones.

Then around 4 or 5 cabin sized ones.

Frith2013 · 27/07/2019 18:50
  1. I’ve never owned one, we always pack a big rucksack each.
HundredMilesAnHour · 27/07/2019 18:56

I have two: one cabin sized hard shell one, one medium sized hard shell one. Occasionally I take both if I'm away for a long time but usually one or the other is fine.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 27/07/2019 18:59

4 cabin sized - one each. We generally use those for everything, including a 3 week trip last year. And two big hold sized ones that we don't really use any more. We're light packers these days.

Fireinthegrate · 27/07/2019 19:11

I have 3 holiday size ones, and 2 cabin sized ones.
My work colleague buys a new case for every holiday! When she moved house a few years ago the removal men found 20 in her attic!

problem1234567 · 27/07/2019 21:52

A new suitcase for every holiday Fireinthegrate?! Shock

That must be her 'thing'.

Three easyjet sized carry ons (one for each of us). One Ryan air sized carry on. Two medium sized suitcases, one big and two or three that used to be cabin sized but aren’t any more. We travel long haul for a couple weeks every other Xmas and we take the two or three carry ons and one medium one big case - gifts going out and gifts coming back! Any other trip try to just stick to carry ons.

Not enough...we have to borrow when we go on a family holiday. Years ago I bought a set of 3 matching cases as a single person. They saw me ok. But not enough for a family.

TheCanyon · 27/07/2019 22:02

Two large and two medium. Fil borrowed our only hand luggage case two years ago and will never see it again. Could do with changing the mediums for large ones.

BloomingHydrangea · 27/07/2019 22:28

Loads- we travel all the time, most are at least 10 years old.

Actually almost no actual suitcases - we use large wheels bags as we usually have a 32kg limit per bag. Then probably 4 wheels cabin bags but I tend to use holdalls as they don't get gate checked.

happypotamus · 27/07/2019 22:31

1 I think. Dh bought a hand luggage size one when he went away recently. For holidays etc I use the massive rucksack that I've had since I did my DofE expedition over 20 years ago. There is also a suitcase from about 1972 in the attic that used to belong to my parents. I have been using it to transport some of my belongings since I started uni, but have lived in the same house for many years now. DDs have a trunki each.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/07/2019 22:32

2 cabin sized ones. That's it.

A new case for every holiday = one of the most ridiculously wasteful things I've ever heard of!

Crunchymum · 27/07/2019 22:34

We have zero. In-laws have loads though so when we need them we just go into their "Aladdin's Cave" (a spare room they have full of suitcases, spare bedding, camping stuff and hobby gear and much more!) and pick the cases we want.

GiggleMcDimples · 27/07/2019 22:40

My kids have one each, then there's a few old ones in the attic with Christmas decorations and random old crap that I'll never look at again sentimental stuff. And I borrow cases off my mum whenever we go away. We really should invest in our own proper cases.

notso · 27/07/2019 22:49

One medium one, one cabin one and a hold-all.

CherryPavlova · 27/07/2019 22:55

A household rather than individual collection of around four or five of each size from cabin cases up to very large. We bwork away a lot so they get quite good use.

TreacherousPissFlap · 27/07/2019 23:02

None

We have a very small house and storage is a premium. I've recently replaced our cases with Osprey travel duffel bags that fold down to a shoebox size when not in use. We have a couple of those and a selection of rucksacks.

reluctantbrit · 27/07/2019 23:05

3 proper suitcases, cabin size, medium(2 people week long beach holiday break) and large hard shell (1 person 2 weeks or 2 persons 1 week mixed weather break).

We also have a small travel bag one (the one you can fit on top of a suitcase) for overnights and. Huge hold-all for Scout trips and for all things which don’t fit in a suitcase for a family trip.

withals · 27/07/2019 23:13

Two large suitcases, one medium suitcase, one smart cabin roller bag and 6 cabin size rucksack/holdalls. We generally go hand luggage only with the cabin size bags these days.

SingingMyOwnSpecialSong · 27/07/2019 23:14

A small cabin size one, that is usually DDs now, a medium sized one that I use quite often and a big one that has only been used twice and is now just used to keep the others in. I mostly use a fantastic big rucksack that opens like a suitcase and around the bottom and has a little detachable day sack that zips on and off. Got it when I did regular long train journeys with several changes with DD so I could carry everything in one unit and have my hands free, but quickly detach what I needed at my seat. It and my strong but tiny folding briefcase sized buggy are my favourite baby/toddler purchases.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 27/07/2019 23:15

Way too many! At least 10. I go abroad probably once every 5 years but love beautiful luggage Blush

teenagetantrums · 27/07/2019 23:16

I think 4 maybe 5. Only use the two small ones or the medium one. Got a few big ones in a cupboard now full of crap so basically storage boxes
