If you have a comfortable bed...

Where's it from?

DH and I have had enough of our uncomfortable, creaky bed and mattress so have decided to get a new one.

We want to get the best mattress we can for our budget but are unsure on bed frames as we've never had a brand new one before. If you have a comfortable and sturdy bed, where did you get it from?

Thanks in advance!

Warren Evans. Had it for years have moved it twice (so I disassembled and reassembled
twice). I’d recommend a mattress topper too.

bionicnemonic · 27/07/2019 10:30

Mine was eye wateringly expensive but I’ve had it over 20 years and it still perfect. It is solid latex (this is NOT the same as memory foam) I have slept on memory foam and find them really uncomfortable.
This is made by Dunliopillow and is the medium (which is pretty firm) and cost (then!) about £900.
It’s showing no sign of getting old

bionicnemonic · 27/07/2019 10:32

Should add, that was just the mattress, which is on a normal slatted base which was £175 from a bed shop. Second frame for the same mattress...

I got ours from get laid beds - which is a horrendous name but the bed is great!

Aragog · 27/07/2019 10:36

We got our bed and mattress from the Natural Bed Company which is local to us: www.naturalbedcompany.co.uk/

I have a superking Tempur Sensation Elite which is their firmest mattress, I have it on a standard slatted bedframe, not a tempur bedframe.

It’s really comfy, the cover can be removed and laundered, it also doesn’t require any turning.

AlexaAmbidextra · 27/07/2019 11:10

I have the Relyon Luxury Alpaca 2550. The mattress top layer is wool, alpaca and cashmere. It’s absolutely gorgeous. I dispensed with my mattress topper as I no longer need it as my mattress is so luxuriously full. Also, it wasn’t the ridiculous price of a Hypnos which I really don’t see that they can justify.

KnifeAngel · 27/07/2019 11:36

Hypnos mattress. We have had about 4 mattresses and this is by far the most comfortable. I got it as a second from mattressman.com but it was perfect when it arrived.

Emma mattress
Simba bed from John Lewis

According to Which the best mattresses aren't necessarily the most expensive so be careful there. I've got a feeling that box mattresses and Ikea ones come up top

bloodywhitecat · 27/07/2019 12:58

An eBay wooden frame which cost us £20 and a Hypnos mattress which cost us a LOT more but was worth every penny.

distractingdissertation · 27/07/2019 13:13

Ours is an Ikea malm with an Ikea mattress. It wasn't massively expensive. It's a superking size though which makes a massive difference if you can fit it in your bedroom. The mattress has a 25 yr guarantee - after about 10 years a spring went in dh's side (probably from 2 dc using it as a trampoline rather than any more fun bouncing!) and they replaced it free of charge with no quibbling.

Only problem with it is it's spoiled posh hotels for me - I've never found a bed on holiday that's more comfortable than ours at home (including the premier inn hypnos ones).

ConorMcGregorsChin · 27/07/2019 13:18

Stayed in a premier Inn for a month after my house was flooded. Was so impressed by the comfy mattress, I bought one.

It's a Hypnos with built in topper. As mentioned by a few others on here. I've seen them for sale in various shops. But if you go to the Premier Inn website there is a 'Buy our Bed' link. It takes you straight to the manufacturer. It seemed a very reasonable price to me. I can't remember exactly but I think circa £500 for my king size. There's something like a 6 week wait as they make it to order for you. Then when it's delivered, they go into great detail about how to care for it / turn it etc.

Highly recommend.

ShootTheRunner · 27/07/2019 13:19

I have an igel mattress from Bensons and I still get pure joy lying on it even after 3 years! It's very deep and heavy though.

Pumpkintopf · 27/07/2019 13:19

Another vote for the premier inn one. We love ours, so comfortable.

smileylottie87 · 27/07/2019 15:33

Hypnosis here too, expensive but worth it! Just make sure you follow the care instructions, turn it if it tells you too etc. We got a new one 6 months ago and it is unfortunately defective but they quickly sent out an inspector and it's being replaced so the customer service is excellent too.

smileylottie87 · 27/07/2019 15:34

Ahhh auto correct, Hypnos not hypnosis!

NiLunNiLautre · 27/07/2019 15:41

I bought 3 new IKEA beds last year: 2 middle of the range and one a little more expensive. They are excellent. Guests have commented on the comfiness (of middle range one; the expensive one is mine!)

StormcloakNord · 27/07/2019 15:42

We have a bed frame from Oak Furniture Land which has been moved twice and it's been great, and our mattress is a Tempur Cloud Luxe. It's the comfiest mattress I've ever had an well worth the eye watering amount I paid for it!

SabineSchmetterling · 27/07/2019 15:46

We have a really solid wooden bedstead. It’s a king size and we actually got it in Costco, I think. The mattress is a Rest Assured pocket sprung with memory foam top. The mattress is enormous though and weighs a ton. Normal fitted sheets won’t go on it so we have to buy extra deep ones.

Mintjulia · 27/07/2019 15:54

High end Dreams divan, 1400 springs extra firm mattress plus mattress topper, standard double size which I have to myself since I threw ex out in 2017. It’s bliss. I love my bed Smile

cheeseismyspiritanimal · 27/07/2019 16:15

Thanks so much for all the recommendations. Seems like it's a toss up between ikea and hypnos for popularity. Off to do some research. Can't wait to have a comfy new bed!

My bed is over twenty years old. It's a Super Kingsize Ikea bed, with two separate mattresses on it. We have a foam upper and a mattress topper on it, and it's the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on. I love coming home from holiday to sleep in it.
